Dual channel worth the mone y?

Ok guys..

For my new pc i definitely want 2 gb of ram in it for games that almost require it now ..

So my question is do i buy 2 x 2 x 512 mb ram dual channel kit.. with the latencys of 2-3-2-5 ..

for around 400 euro

or do i just buy 2 of the kingston hyperX 1 gb sets with a latency of 2-3-2-6

for only 280 euro ..
Both sets are pc3200....
Would it realy be better to run in dual channel ? to make up for those 120 euro ....

I have one more option though
a 2 x 1 gb kit dual channel but latencys at 2.5-3-3-7-1
I dno what the extra 1 at the end is about though

So are the lower latencys really better.. Is dual channel worth it ..
Can i put the 2x 1gb sticks in dual channel even if there not meant to be ? ,..
I dno ..

Why can't you run the 2x1gb in dual channel? If they're the same speed memory you can run them in dual channel no problem.

You don't need a specifically dual channel kit to run in dual channel, and you can run dual channel with any even number of sticks.

Also latencies will make no real world difference at all, so don't worry about them.

End advice: just buy corsair value select 2x1gb. Same real performance, same warrenty. Lots cheaper.

4x512 memory of that kind of latency would have only cost around 220e if you know where to find and 400e is definitely a complete rip-off, and 280e for 2x1GB.

If you don't even know how to get dual channel you're probably better off buying the cheapest 2x1GB DDR400 memory available, which is not any slower (at most 3%)

In all cases you can run Dual Channel, the 2x1GB Kingston will be the fastest, seconded by 2x1GB Cheap sticks, last with 4x512M

Go for the 2 x1Gb kit as if you require you can upgrade further in the future as you will have two more free slots.

Ok so if i go for the 1 gb stick and buy 2 of them , how can i run them in dual channel ? Will it do it automatically or will i have to go through bios and all that ****..

As long as dual channel is enabled in the BIOS (It should be by defualt) and you insert the RAM into the correct slot (they are normally both colour-coded and described in your manual) the memory will run in dual channel mode.
