First time build problem

First time build problem
I'm building a Core2Duo E6400 at this very moment. I've installed the CPU, RAM and VGA card to test out the system.
I've plugged in the following:
- 24 pin motherboard power cable
- 4pin 12V atx cable (the one that powers the CPU)
- PCI-e x16 power cable on the motherboard (molex)
- molex power cable going to the VGA
- the case's power switch, power LED.etc.
- Scythe Ninja Plus's fan power cable(goes to a 3pin plug on motherboard PWR_FAN)
- And the rear fan power cable (molex)
I'vwe plugged in a monitor and keyboard and I switch on the machine. All the fans spin perfectly but there is nothing displayed on screen (amber LED on the screen and not green) and the keyboard's LED didn't do a "flash" sequence.

Could someone help me solve this problem? I'm running a Gigabyte DS4, Cosair PC5400 TwinX, Scythe Ninja Plus. Could it be because there is nothing plugged into the CPU_FAN socket on the motherboard (the 120mm fan on the Scythe don't have the 4 pin required on the motherboard)?

i had same problem my first time, re-seat all the ram and the graphics card, unliky to be the fan thing, but to be sure stick a case fan onto the cpu fan socket, pretty sure it will be the seating of the ram of gfx card tbh was with mine :)

I'vwe just tried resiting the ram and vga card. But the same thing is still happening. Should it display the VGA card details before showing the BIOS details?

it is turned on the scree nyer not being a gay just maybe its on standby?

no normally the first thing you see is the option to go into the bios...

The screen is turned on. But there is no activityat all. The screen just stays blank.

Anyone else who might have an idea whats happening?

disconnect everything and just have the cpu & ram plugged in see if it starts
then try 1 piece of ram in all the slots
try and alternative stick of ram in all the slots
if that dont work then hit with hammer!

Don't I need a VGA card to get the machine to turn on and go through the BIOS?

Try resetting the CMOS. Look in the manual for the correct jumper... or you could just take the battery out, leave it for a couple of minutes, then pop it back in.

Tried it, still nothing :undecided
Tried switching cables around. Tried re-siting the VGA and RAM again

What graphics card you got?

What v does the ram need to run stable? (on the heatspreader sticker? maybe) if its above 1.8v then this may be the reason it will not boot. If so you need to get el cheapo ram (256 ddr2) that boots at 1.8v for your pc to post.

Or sell your ram, and go for some ram that runs at 1.8v when boots (like my geil 6400.)

Just to thanks for eveyones help. In the end it was a dodgy case which caused the problem (Antec P150). The metal slit where you insert the VGA's back plate is very tight, causing the VGA card not to plug in fully. Which in the end caused the machine not to boot and go through to POST. Got in working in the end, got to say E6400 is very good chip *thumbs up*
