    HD Advice

I'm looking to get the 80GB or 160GB SATA HD from Scan on Today Only ( http://www.scan.co.uk/todayonly)

If anyone has purchased one recently, please can you let me know what the noise level is like. I need quietness to Silentpcreview.com standards.

My current drive is a Barracuda V and as you may know this is very quiet.

    Many thanks.

PS - should I post this question in the Scan sub forum or link to this thread from there?

I don't think they're known for being quiet. I'd suggest going for a samsung spinpoint if quietness if your priority.

No need to post in the scan sub forum - you are asking about the hard drive itself, not any service that scan are providing

    Thanks.

I bought a SpinPoint 80GB a few months ago and it wasn't quiet at all. Sold it on another forum.

Certainly don't want to try the 80GB again.

    Hmmm, that does sound strange...
If you do a search for SP2504C, or P120 on here, you'll find a whole host of users on here that can recommend Spinpoints wholeheartedly.

I've got 4 of these in the lower drive bay of my P180, and there's hardly a peep out of all of them (almost everything else is passively cooled now) so they are the loudest thing in my case, but they are VERY hard to hear, especially with the door closed...(and I'm very fussy about silent computing)

The 250gig (2504C) is usually similarly priced to any offerings from any other manufacturer (and SPCR like them too)
