What could be killing my graphics cards?

    I have a
    E6600
    P5W Deluxe mother board
    2GB G.Skill DDR2 800
Akasa 580W PSU (quad 12v rails)
    X1900XT
    Kandalf Case

I have a very odd problem

I have had 2 HIS X1900XT IceQ cards, both failed in the same way after 1 days use.
When i first put the card into the system it runs fine, I 3DMark06 it a few times etc

I then play a few hours on CS:S or BF2 with no problem.

I then go back into 3DMark06 only to find really bad artifacting in the SM3 tests. This has happened twice now!

I can play any games with no problem but the sm3 test is a mess. If i stop the clocks boosting up to 3D speeds its fine but when the card boosts up the clock speeds its artifacts, but only in this one test!

my temps on load are about 70 oC (the fan stays at about 27%), my CPU idle is about 19 oC and under load gets up to 30 oC (both cores at 100%)

the only problem i have is that the motherboard temps get up to 51 oC and start at 35 oC (could this be killing my card?, the south bridge is very close to the card and gets to hot to touch)

Anyone have any ideas on this?

19c idle and 30c load on an e6600 on an asus board? is the pc in the fridge?

ive had the same thing myself, also with the same board as you, same graphics card..motherboards kept dying, then the graphics card died. is the card making any noises? have a listen close up and see if its squeaking, if it is, its probably on its way out. it could also be something as simple as a short circuit somewhere.

also, you have the g.skill ram and a lot of people have had problems with it (is it the hz series?), i had the ocz which i understand is the same as the g.skill and has the same problems, since i got rid of the ocz ram, i havent had any problems.

The card is squeeking under load... the last one was the same.

I have no BSOD or any other issues in 2D mode.... SuperPI, folding etc is fine so i doubt its the ram.

The temps are due to the kandalf. As soon as i turn the fans off in the case the temps goes up to 40oC underload.

I wonder if there is an issue with the boards and X1900XT cards?

I suppose there could be a problem with compatibility. I've not had any trouble with my HIS X1900XT and AB9 Pro.

it may just be that it was a crap batch of x1900 cards? if they are all made in the same factory, then its possible, saying that though, i think it may have been the faulty x1900 that killed 3 motherboards, but i guess we will never know.

look around its not just me who is having problems. It may be a problem with the voltage setup on the ATi drivers. I think there may be a problem with the P5W and some X1900XT cards. I don't know why though.

i rma'd the card, got a different one, got rid of the problem ram, rma'd the dead boards and went for asus p5b, corsair ram, sapphire x1900xt and it works like a charm now.

the bad memory didn't kill the boards, we'll never know what killed the boards. its annoying when theres a fault, and you cant pinpoint it down to an exact component without replacing everything and seeing what else blows up.

i think it was the x1900
