Question from a mate..
Well, not having tested it myself.. and CBA if someone actually done it already...
Will...
MSI Neo2 Platinum work with 3 sticks of memory? i.e. 3 sticks of 512MB..
I have a spare pair of memory I was going to sell it to my mate.. but he already has one stick of 512MB in there..
It doesnt matter if its dual channel or not, he just needs the mem capacity..

Haven't used this mobo myself but have one with a similar memory slot config and it worked fine with three sticks of RAM. It'd be very daft for mobo manufacturers to include three memory slots if you could only use two at a time...
-
Should work fine, I've had 3X256mb in a mobo a few years ago without a problem. The clock frequencey of the ram will drop a little but its not noticable.
-
well, its a Neo2 Platinum, skt 939.. so it has 4 slots..
Seems to remember rumours that dual channel enabled A64s wont take 3 sticks well..
-
well.. no one tried it before?
I would love to try it now, but my system is a little bz now.. and will be bz until like tomorrow..
-
I've got an MSI K8N SLi and the description (ebay) stated it wouldn't work with 3 sticks of memory. As it's same company might be the same for this mobo?
-
should work (although not officially supported) but will only be in single channel
-
doesnt matter if its single channel. Oh well.. I guess I'll have to test it tomorrow, since no one's really tried it before..
Anyone else have anything else to add, LMK..

My brother runs 3 sticks of memory in his setup, but he has a socket 754 A64 without the on-chip memory controller so isnt exactly the same.
That said, he has 2 x 256 sticks and 1 x 1Gig, and they all work well overclocked by 15% quite easily.
The motherboard has only 3 mem slots BTW.

Works in my brother NF4 board.....hes currently running 2 x 512 + 1 x 1024......runs in single channel tho but 100% stable.
Board is the ABit KN8 Ultra although its almost certainly more a limitation of the chipset and/or cpu though.
