PCIe network card?

Just had a quick look for a PCI Express X1 network card, as that would allow me to use a micro-ATX motherboard in a system that I want to be both cheap and have 2 network interfaces plus 2 TV cards.

Given that PCIe has been out for years now, I would have thought that you could at least get a cheap network card for it.

Anyone seen one for less than the £27-75 that Ebuyer charge for an Intel board? Their cheapest PCI card is £2-99 which seems more like it

to be honest i don't recall seeing anything in pci-e x1 about it seems to be dead socket or something

have looked on all the sites i use about 20 and can't find any pci-ex1 cards

and also nearly all boards come with on board ethernet /gigabit port so you shouldn't need a card some boards even have 2 ports for networking

there are plenty of pci-x cards out there..

Thing is, I want this as partly a router box. One gigabit port to talk to local PCs, and the other can be 10Mbit given my tripe ADSL connection. It seems a bit of a pain to have to use a full sized ATX motherboard, but I am starting to think there is no real economic way out.

Shame I have not heard anything good about USB to ethernet adaptors (specially under Linux).

be sure to get decent chipsets whatever they are since you may want to do some QOS stuff

if you use bsd altq only supports some of the better cards. (bge, fxp..)

not sure about tc and netfilter, but decent cards are decent cards..
