A poll to determine their reliablility etc
i've got 1. I've modded it with 2 blue Cooler Master LED fans and a variable speed control knob :)
Seems to be fine. Had no problems at all with it.
have to say i have used a few of these with no problens at all, i modded the fans and braided the cables in them
I think this is one thread that is important to bear in mind that what you pay for is what you get.
Better quality = more cost simple as that.

I'm interested to hear from people with a Barton 2500@3200 (1.65v), NF7-s, 512mb Twinmos setups that can run Prime95 with no problems!
AND the people who are having problems.....
I worked at a company who used to sell these jobbies for £80 a throw
I've built a few systems with them too, and i have to say they're pretty poo. Roughly 1 in 20 went pop the first time you turned it on (admittedly it didnt do any damage to anything else though). The rest did work, but 1 came back as it couldn't power a XP2000, Elite Mobo, 2HDDs, CDRW, DVD, GF2 MX, 3 80mm Case Fans & 2 Cold cathodes.
Like TiG said, you gets what you pays for :p
How about "i had one before it broke and went up with smoke" ?
I have one, plus I built a punter a rig based on one. My one is great, his isn't. Started acting up after a couple of months, randomly decides it doesn't want to start up.. when it's running it's fine though.
I stick with Enermax or Antec for my main system - for other systems, or ones I build (that of course, require far less load,) I go with cheaper PSU's.
I don't recall ever using Q-Tech though.
The majority of people here say that the qtec is not the best of psu's. The same goes for ocuk i believe. Your better off with a cheap generic psu if cost is such a big issue.
These psu's pop and when they do they take other components with them :(
had one put a couple of dorothy panaflo fans in ran ok for a month then fried leave well alone i disregarded this advice and payed for it
Have most people modded the Fans, which fan did you use? link?
Yeah, interesting point - fan modding. Did people put lower CFM fans on?
If so then it doesn't suprise me that they failed - they probably aren't very heat tolerant.
Mine is pretty quiet, don't see a need to mod the fan, and to touch its never hot or even warm.
the pink fans that come with it are just loud!, thats why i changed mine...
May I ask a naive question ?
You guys are into pushing things to the limit ?
What if I use mine ,if I get it tommorrow after waiting four days after payement for it to be sent, without thrashing it or my CPU ,your opinion of it going pop !!
PS
One day I tell you the saga of buying what was described has a Q-tec from Micro Direct and getting a generic with fans at each not right angles wich my board needs there refusal to collect it and forcing me to pay "special delivery" and rumblings of giving me credit note.
Pink Fans on both of mine were perfectly quiet.. obviously varies quite a lot .Quote:

I'd pay the extra for something better really dp7641, I only have the Q-Tec 550w in my tv-box, which is not overly important. Antec & Enermax would be a good place to start ;).
Agreed, I'm running 3hdds an xp2500+ oc to 3200+ @ 1.675V, 2cd roms, a G4ti 4200 all on an Asus A7N8X deluxe board.
Changed the fans to silent YS-Tech ones and I've never had a single problem.
Chris
I've got one and blew it from an mistake of my own (connecting a floppy drive power connector while the PC was on, oh it was the wrong way round too)
It just wouldnt not work.
I dont think it does vary its just peoples perception of it - i bet the tollerable people are delta fans people too :eek:Quote:

Definitely should have added an option:
Had one and it died/melted/spontaneously combusted/blew up some part of my computer/blew up my entire computer/made my system more unstable than a lemming carrying the eiffel tower upside down on it's back/maimed my dog/killed my granny/destroyed a small country and I'll bitch about them on these forums forever.
Just no.5 for me and I know 3 other people with identical experiences - when your LED fans flicker all the time, it's a good indication that something is wrong. Actually got mine out of the cupboard this week - needed a fan grill :). Admittedly it was fairly quiet, but not as quiet as my Antec.
If you've got one and it's working - then all well and good - I just believe that the tolerance on these devices is very low (i.e. quite a lot are substandard, though others may be OK)
I have a Q-tec 550W PSU now it works great.
Runs my 2 hard drives, Dvd writer, combo drive, 9800Se AIW, mobo, 7 case fans. No probs.
Its rather quite too. external build quality looks very nice.
Change my vote from dont have one to got one and working great ! :)
Ive been using my QTec 550 for around 9 months now without any probs at all.
Had one running my old AMD rig - 2hdd, 2 dvd, rad 9500 pro abit nf7 etc and had no problems at all
Changed the internal fans for ceramic bearing led fans and looked good too.
Zeb
I've had one for 6 months no probs. at all.
I changed the fans for evercools to cut down noise/increase airflow and it runs my system fine xp1800+ @ 1.7v, RAM @ 2.9v, nforce2 mobo, AiW gfx, 3xscsi hdd, 1x ide hdd and 2 optical drives, 6 case fans + other stuff, quite impressive for the money imo.
