    super pi

    hi there

i was wondering if this 28.9 second 1 meg superpi time is okay for the spec of my machine:

    3500+ @ 3050MHz
    Akasa cheapo HSF
    512MB Geil value ram PC3200 @ 250MHz I think
    2 x 80gb maxtor hdd's.

Im competing with my mates pentium 4 d @ 4600MHz, and just beat him at the moment. Is there anything I can do to get a quicker time with what I've got? He gets 29.3 seconds, I want to aim for below 28 seconds.
    cheers

    Hi,

    thanks for the reply.

Im running 2.5-3-3-6 as it wont run CL2.0 at any other timings and the command rate is at 1t.

This is a cpu that can be had for £60 new though. Not a few hundred quid lol although them conroe's are amazing chips.

It's not folding@home stable but its stable enough to benchmark @ 3050MHz. Seems to have gotten a bit better clocking as the time has passed. I can get screenshots of 3150 on it but to get more I will have to try 1.7vcore - is this alright for just benchmarking?

The temperatures are about 35 mobo temp, and 46c cpu temp. Rarely do they exceed 50c even when folding. I only run it at 2.9GHz folding@home 24/7.

1.7v is pretty high, I wouldn't go there unless you have a tec or phase cooling. It might be ok for some suicide shots but nothing more...

I wouldn't go above 1.65v for day to day and the lower the better really.

A reasonable test of stability would be 12h or so of prime 95.

    I get 52s

    Well that explains all really

My motherboard (at the moment) is locked to 10x on the multiplier, and 250mhz is the max I can press up on the fsb (goes to 0 after 250) and I'm not so sure I should try clocking my RAM as it can be tempermental.
RAM is at 2.5-3-3-6-9 2T (CAS-RAStoCAS-RAS-Tras-Trc) I don't know what to change to speed it up a bit either.

I'm going to put a different version of the bios on the motherboard to unlock the multiplier again (was unlocked, updated and it was then removed).

Side note - I can get 2.5Ghz out of the CPU but it's unstalbe (mobo I think) but 2.4Ghz is fine (primed for a while).

I set the vcore to 1.7v for suicide shots...and it didnt even achieve much more of an overclock. I could get 3150 before with 1.65v and now 3189MHz with 1.7v, temps all in order it was the chips max I am sure, as I tried 3200 and it BSOD'd before I could paste it into paint!

This chip really can't do anymore than this on air..maybe with LN2 it could though..

    regards,
    Ben

    Hi there,

have you tried lowering the htt link speed to 3x so the htt doesnt go over 1000 as it probably would at 250FSB+ if its currently set to 4x?

Well currently I can only change the fsb, haven't downgraded the bios yet, will do it now and test it out...if I still can't I'm going to have to find an older bios
