I've always liked my NEC DVD RW's, although found their CD reading and writing to be a little slow at times (purely subjective, but compared to my other drive, a Lite-on CD-RW).
Never tried the HP lightscribes, but i suppose it comes down to if you'd use that particular function or not.
Generally DVD-RW's these days are much of a muchness and very cheap (ie £20 for a brand new one).

LightScribe is actually a POS (IMO)
Great idea but you need to buy special disks and it generally takes 10 times longer to write the label, then it does to burn the disc!

lol very true, but i actually have both drives on me, and i was trying to decide which one to keep. i may aswell just keep the HP cause its spec is good, then if i ever want the NEC ill buy a better version such as the 3550 or the 4750
