    Advice on Mouse & keyboard

Im off to uni in a few weeks and have bought & built a new PC. I am now looking for a decent mouse & keyboard to offset it nicely.

Im trying to keep the price as low as possible, yet get some decent equip. I would like it to be wireless if possible(especially the mouse) but if needs be i can do without.

So far i like the look of the Mx1000:
    http://www.savastore.com/productinfo...pid=45&tid=279

    and the Saitek Eclipse:
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=265400

I like the look of the mouse but it is a tad pricey. As for the Saitek, i like the look of it and the backlight, but it doesnt come with media keys(i use them a lot to control WMP when im playing games) and it is wired. Also for £27 the only real feature that appeals to me is the backlight. Is it really worth the extra money?

iv also found this on ebay:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Logitech-MX-50...QQcmdZViewItem

What do you think of it? it has the odd shaped 'insert - home - page down keys(i use them for straf/jump/backwards) but i could get used to them. Im also not so sure about the LCD screen - does it really come in usefull and could it be used to display song names? It does appeal to me though, especially as there are a number of them up for auction and i could get it cheaper.

    cheers guys.

Justdeals sells refurb products, I would not trust it if I was you. You may get lucky, but maybe its worth getting a new one.

    Ive heard bad things.

I have a MX1000 and its great, cant fault it. I also have the BenQ X-530 (just using the keyboard) from amazon with those mission speakers free for £15 inc Delivery. Its alright.

    http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?t=82712

    Either this- http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=386403

    Or this- http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=272987

    Will do fine though.

I dont see the piont in the backlight, I dont game in the dark so its of no use apart from looking nice. The buttons also wear out after time so it will look ugly.

    Thanks.

I do like the look of that ben Q keyboard. The saitek just seemed a lot of money for a laser etched & light up keyboard. Ultimately, by the time the keys have worn off ill be wanting a new keyboard anyway, so as long as it lasts several months ill be happy. As for light in the dark, i dont tend to work at night so cant really see it beign anything more then a gimmic.

Any other opinions on the BenQ or possible alternatives?

    thanks again guys.

edit: Noni - How solid does the keyboard feel? It is described as 'slim' but does that mean is flexes and feels tacky or does it feel quite weightly & solid? Also for gaming - is it any good? What about pressing the keys, do they feel robust or are they wobbly and loud when touch typing? thanks again matee.

Hi there, sorry for the late reply.

It feels ok, the keyboard itself has a nice weight and feels very solid. The keys are a bit weak and are a little bigger than laptop style keys. Im happy for the £15 I paid.

It has a nice gloss strip which looks great too.

The hotkeys feel very nice. Heres some pics too-

    Thanks.

bah, didnt think too. iv got a 240watt hi-fi which will be used when i go to uni, so no real need for 2.1 speakers.

How good are they? if push comes to shove i can RMA it back and re-order them i spose. No real hurry for keyboard & mouse as i dont leave for uni for 3 weeks & still using old/family PC as its the only one connected to the internet. Ill call them up tomorrow and see if i cant wiggle them in somehow.

The keys on the Eclispse keyboard don't wear out, as the letters are laser etched 'thru' the plastic, so the only thing that can wear out is possibly the silver paint, but having prized one of the keys off to clean it, they appear silver right thru - can't confirm it tho. As far as it's usefulness goes, it's essetial for anyone who likes to game in the dark as it is much more immersive but you can not normally see which keys you're pressing. The only downside is if you have monitor too close to the keyboard, the light of it reflects on the silver of the keys making it actually harder to see.

I've tried so many keyboards but have never found my 'perfect' one. As far as mice are concerned it's even worse. I've gone thru Logitech, Msoft, and Saitek and still not found my perfect rodent partner! (oo er!)
