Well that was apparently a complete waste of money, it's currently at 50 degrees (with the fan on full) and I'm only running Winamp and Opera

How much thermal paste are you supposed to use? I applied about half the small tube as I read it was better not to put too much on.

You need to use about BB szed dot at most, get some Artic silver 5 and try that.

Sounds like you've mounted it badly, or you didn't mention thats it's overclocked to 4.0ghz.
