    Upgrade Decisions.

I've been thinking about upgrading the core components of my pc for a while now and I think now is the right time.

So far I'm looking at the following components:

    Intel E6400 2.13GHz - £155
    Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3 - £108
    GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400 800MHz - £147

    £410 total.

What do you think of these? Will the RAM be ok with the motherboard?

I'll be using these components with my Engermax Noisetaker 470W PSU and my X800GTO.

It depends on your budget and timescale you want the new components to last.

The E6400 like all in the new Intel Core2Duo processor range are absolutely fabulous.

Although the E6600 and upwards have 4Mb of L2 Cache whereas the E6400/E6300 have 2Mb. This does affect performance; especially for multitasking.

The chips with the larger cache will also future proof your system much better.

What do you use your computer for?

I use my computer for gaming/internet/movies/music etc.

I'm pretty much set on the E6400, but I'm more concerned about the mobo and memory.

I'd recommend that you go for a faster CPU - I don't think you will ever regret spending the extra cash. Sorry if this isn't what you want to hear.

I have heard many menory related problems with newer boards but if you go with quality memory you should be OK. Check Gigabyte's website for compatability and also check their forums for the board you are looking at. Worth making sure before you spend.

I'm a Corsair fan myself and would always stick with their stuff unless others suggest otherwise...???

    Have you considered Corsair's TwinX XMS2, DDR2 PC6400 or A-Datas DDR2 6400 Vitesta CL4 Dual Channel kit.

Unless you are wanting an SLI or Crossfire setup, I would recommend the ASUS P5B Deluxe - look up some reviews and you'll see why.
