av8 - memory problems (worked with 2 sticks, doesnt with more)

    hello
    i have four memory sticks
1gb corsair value select (ddr 400)
512 mb corsair value select (ddr 400)
    512 twinmos (ddr 400)
and 256 mb corsair value select (ddr 266) - this is only being used to help me test the system

anyway, i have an av8 socket 939 mobo. it has four ddr slots:
    Code:
    1 2 3 4
I had the two 512mb's in slots 1 and 2:
    Code:
    512 512 / /
    it worked

    but i can't get 512 + 512 + 1gb to work. the best ive got is:
    Code:
    1gb / 512 (corsair) /
if i do other combinations (even with the 256 stick) it just bleeps and nothing is displayed on the screen.

here is a "table" of some of my "results". none worked apart from 2:

    512twn = twinmos
    512cor = corsair value select
    Code:
    1gb 512twn / / nope
    1gb / / / nope
    1gb / 512cor / YES!
    1gb / 512cor 512twn nope
    1gb 256 512cor 512twn nope
    / 256 512cor 512twn nope
    / / 512cor 512twn YES! (running it now)
    512cor 512twn / / YES!
    ANY IDEAS?
I thought maybe its to dowith dual channel. i cant find an option in bios to turn dual channel off though...
    cheers

When I had my AV8, it worked fine with 4 sticks..

512MB TCCC 512MB TCCC 512MB Infineon 512MB Aeone and it works

    works with

    512MB Micron 512MB Micron 512MB Micron 512MB Micron

    I ahve also tried

    512MB TCCC 512MB TCCC 1GB Kingston

and it still worked fine, abeit having it at 2T and 333MHz for 3 sticks to run.. but its at least 30 pass (test 5) Memtest+ stable..

I think its just the sticks that are incompatible.. I used to think AV8 was pretty resilient to memory mismatches.. But I think MAYBE.. 2 sitcks of 512 and 256 then another 1GB is a little difficult.. for any Athlon 64 board for that matter..

Give ABIT USA forums a read, I've heard from BUFF that they give pretty good advices..

2t? 30 PASS? What are those???
Also im only actually trying for 1gb + 512 + 512, the 256 was just for testing.

Running 3 sticks require you to change the command rate (in the BIOS) to 2T and lowering the memory clockspeed to 333MHz rather than 400MHz..

Anything above that I recall I couldnt even post.. But setting those allowed me to boot and bench no problem..

Memtest+ is a diagnostics that tests your sticks to look for any problems.. You can run the usual 10 test suite, and if it passes about 30 times (passes), then should be fairly stable..

I usually just do test5 and its probably the one that matters most..
