bah, second time i guess, either i'm blind and cant find my thread or i was in idiot mode and didnt click submit after previewing it :Oops:

i currently have a sn45g (i think) wth an xp3000, 1gig of ram and nvidea 6200

with my last incoming student loan i'd like to upgrade with some cash i earnt over hols aswell as theres not much point trying to upgrade the old one anymore. my budgets about £500

was poking scan and came up with this...

i'd prefer to have a small-ish pc again and that case looks like a good comprimise between size and space

is the motherboard, graphics card and processor any good? and is it overall worth the money and effort? is the psu there worth the cash or is there a better/cheaper but decent alternative?

havn't built a pc in a long time so i'v lost track of whats new etc

edit: oh, it'll be running linux most likely, i think everything there will work fine with it but i'm not 100%

pretty nice setup there, but i'd try to go for 2 gigs of ram, if you can scrape together some extra cash.

yeah, the plan was to add another gig of ram (and a decent sound card possibly) but after a few months.

its mainly for gaming btw, i might end up doing some protein modeling for my project this year on it but not sure on that.

Could always stick with a shuttle and upgrade the graphics card to 7600GT with the cost saving?

i thought about another shuttle but i had to hack off the rear grille on my old one and slap a 120mm fan on the back, it was too small inside for everything i wanted to shove in it, i wa shoping the larger silverstone case would solve this while keeping a small size.

agreed! like the look of the shuttles and the gt is only about 25-30 quid more then the gs you speced

also if your gonna be adding another stick of ram then i would buy a single 1 gig stick now and then another gig stick when you can as this will mean that you still have 2 dimm slots free for further upgrades

hmm, i could probs stretch to get a GT regardless, whats the ATI equivilent of it? any differance in price and performance?

i think a single memory stick would be a good idea thinking about it, i wouldnt have though of that

the ATI equivilent is the x1800gto which is in essence an x1800xl but with 4 of the pipelines 'locked and i use that in a loose way! :p' not sure about prices but i got mine for £130 3/4 months ago, and it fulfills my requirments
