    IDE controller and antec p180

i have an IDE drive in my current PC which i need to extract data from...

my new pc has a asus m2n32 mobo which i assume has only SATA compatability.

im not sure of the best way to transfer data from my old drive to my new drive. the data is about 100gb. it doesnt matter if the method takes a long time so long as i can queue up the folders and leave it. an IDE controller was mentioned to me, are there any other ways? and if i use an ide controller will the antec p180 have somewhere to put the drive?

You can remove the cable connected to your DVDRW and connect it to the harddrive temporary and copy the data to another HDD. You can just put the hdd anywhere in the 5.25" bay or in the upper 3.5" bays since you're not really using it that long.

Get an Easy IDE (available from people like Scan) which is an IDE connector to USB2. It's about £10 and is really useful for turning a standard DVD writer into something you can use externally. I've got 4 of them (3 for my NAS drives and one for my DVD) and find them infinitely more reliable than the external drive caddies they replaced.

As arthurleung said the M2N32 has 2x IDE ports on the motherboard. No need to waste cash on an IDE card or anything. Just plug the HDD into one of the IDe ports on the motherboard and you are good to go.

All you need to do is take the side off (when PC is off) plug the HDD into one of the two IDE ports and plug a power molex into it, place on desk/base of case etc. and turn the pc on. It really is that simple. Later this week I am getting the same motherboard and will be doing this to transfer data from my old/current PC to my new one.
