    new base build

i kno there are probably 100 'is this rig good' but i really would aprecciate soem help here.. im savign up for core 2 duo (im on 478) and here is my idea, btw i want it to be as cheap as possible but at the same time want good parts..

    Gigabyte GA 965P-DS4 iP965, S775 ,£110.67
    Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 S775, (non retail) £120.66
    512Mb A-Data DDR2-800 (PC2-6400) Vitesta memory module (*2) £84.00
    Connect3D ATI Radeon X1900 XT 256MB £176.24

it coems to just about £490...

i have a seasonic 600w psu, gigabyte aurora case, and loads of decent fans, so dont worry bout that... its just these components i need....

    Thanks

Woa there, type a bit slower. That looks like a pretty nice setup. My brother was thinking of building a computer and I think that would be an ideal setup for him. No sound card?
    With love and many thanks,

Intel boards have decent on board sound so I doubt there is a need for a sound card. If you could push to it try and get 2Gb of RAM though as that will provide you with a better gaming exeprience if thats what you use this for (I'm guessing with that graphics card)

Apart from that it looks sweet, don't forget a cooler for the CPU and possibly a cooler for the graphcs card as the 1900's are loud.

Is there any reason why you want to go for the DS4 motherboard? Would the S3 do you well enough (for £86)?

As for RAM, i'd always recommend either Corsair or Crucial.
2 x 512MB running at 533 MHz speeds(£78) is enough for Core 2 Duo (1066Mhz) chips, unless you want to overclock in which case i'd suggest 667 MHz speed RAM (for £85) to ensure you have good headroom.

To be fair i'm not experienced in Core 2 Duo overclocking motherboards, or really how good (or otherwise) A-Data is.
Check out the Conroe overclocking thread here.
LegitReviews seems to like the A-Data DDR2, so go with it and let us know if it works well for you.

PS I assume when you wrote
    512Mb A-Data DDR2-800 (PC2-6400) Vitesta memory module (*2) £84.00
    this is 2 x 512MB?
