    Question Logitech Z680s....

Currently on my PC I use the VideoLogic Digitheatre DTS Platinum, and I am considering buying the Logitech because I want 5.1 channel gaming (the DTS is 5.1, but only has a single set of analog inputs (has a Coax and Optical Digital though) and only the nForce MCP can do 5.1 over digital).

The problem is though, the DigiTheatre DTS is a pretty high end system and I don't want to make a step down.

The question is, has anyone actually listened to both of the systems? As I want to take the step up to 5.1 gaming, but I dont want to take a step down in sound quality.

    Cheers,
    NS

Bump (geez, it's almost of the page already...).

Ok, also adding the question, what is the sound quality of the Z680's really like? Without the OMFG ITS AMAZING hype style statements....

    Ive got the z680's

Lets put it this way, i dont think you could find a better sound system than the z68's. However one annoying thing about em is the hissing (white noise). It does yer head yea in leaving em on

My Digitheatre DTS hisses (though it has an auto-cutoff after 3 seconds of silence). Thats the problem, I don't know if my current system is better or not (look it up, it is quite a high end system).

woo nice, digitheatre, not bad m8, tbh Iyou have a really good 4.1 already and upgrading to the z680 although would improve your gaming experince, it wont be a drastic one. But if you are plannig on the z680, then you wont find a better system to annoy your neigbours

Yeah. The DigiTheatre DTS (Platinum) is a great set, but only allows for 2 channel gaming. The only time I ever get 5.1 out of it is on AC3 audio and DVDs. If I had an nForce I would be ok, but still....

Suppose I can just move the DTS system over to my TV....

Yes, but which version of the Z does he have?

You can't get the Klpsch over here which is why I had to get the Digitheatre DTS in the first place and not get 5.1 gaming.

I was looking at gettin these speakers...and i read a review in What HiFi mag on them...3 stars, not great. But there meant to be the best PC speakers, after reading this review...im gonna buy me a 5.1 Reciever and Some Wharfedale speakers...For much better quality and performance. But itll cost more - £150 for reciever, £200 for speakers...unless the deal falls through..in which case itll be £150 for fronts, £120 for rears and £100 for center! Just my thoughts, i can scan in the article if ur interested! Rob

I'm pushing to get the money for the Z680's, so I think ill give the seperates idea a pass, cheers anyway.

The question still stands though, I need to know from someone who has heard both the DigiTheatre DTS and the Z680s to give an oppinion, as I don't want to take a big step down. Pass the word round if you can.

Right, as no-one seems to be able to find anywhere to buy the Klipsch in the UK (5.1 Promedia Ultra) then that means the Logitech Z680 system is the only viable option left....

    Ummm.. wait.

From all the reviews/comparaison I've seen, the Creative Megaworks 550 would be a viable, if not better alternative. Cheaper too. The only down side is you won't get an external decoder with it.

I've been on a lookout for a 5.1 speaker set, and after lots of checking, I was going to go for the Megaworks (its sub is supposed to be less "boomy" while its mid range is supposed to be real good).

Note that they are not to be confused with the cheaper Inspire speaker (also by CL).

I was really going to go for them... until I heard of the Gigaworks.
Not sure when it'll be out here, and I've yet to see the reviews.
On paper though, the midrange is supposed to have been further improved. Most people are hoping that they'd also improved the sub (which the Klipsh Ultra excels), but there is really no word on that yet.

    NightShade,
if you want new speakers for gaming, you might want to use analog.. digital with PC gaming is a dud.. better off with analog + eax.. unless we can find DD/DTS encoded games!
check the Z-5300, cheaper than the 680 but without the decoder though.. i might get one to replace my altec 885
    just my 2p

I wanted the Digital for my DVD's (DTS and DD encoded ones, obviously). I can live with the cost of the Z680's so I don't see any point in getting the Z530 instead of the 680's.

I KNOW I need analog for games, which is the whole reason that my current system is being demoted to the TV (2 digital inputs, but only inputs from front analog, no rear, center or sub )
