    are all conroe cpus built the same.

    if i get one from scan will it be the same as from anywhere else

    anyone know if the asrock dual vsta will work with my current psu, ram, gfx in sys spec.

    also how can i use same hard drive without formatiing because i have alot of software/plug ins and it it would be a pain to re install it all

    Can't see your PSU info. The RAM will work but possibly be a bit slow. You need to give a bit more info about the graphics card - is it PCI-E or AGP?

    If you partition your hard drive you can transfer your current files to a different partition and then install a new copy of windows on the first partition.

    If you remove all the chipset drivers from your PC and install the ones for the new motherboard BEFORE swapping the hardware, windows should boot up fine after swapping everything.

    The PCI-express ones only work with PCI-express.

    The AGP ones only work with AGP

    my gfx is agp

    thought was obvious from sys specs bein an ath xp

    psu is eye-t 450w (el cheapo came with case)

    ordered cpu and mobo off scan getting delivered on fri so will let you all know at the weekend if i get it working.

    also i hear you need to re install windows to get dual core functionality is this true?

    Ill prob get xp 64 if i need 2 re install as i can get it free of microsoft student alliance thing.

    ive done it a couple of times, it booted up fine with a dual-core in, then i put the driver on and carried on using it no probs

    the problem i have with xp64 is that F* all printers/scanners etc seem to work with it, plus i have a netmd minidisk etc etc

    it might get better with vista but i reckon its going to have to be dual boot time again
