I'm probably not the first person to point this out but look at these:

Its probably utterly pointless unless its in a workstation or server but still, QUAD CORE!
Personally i think they have brought them out too soon after dual core went popular.

The only thing is the cores will be starving for bandwidth through the slow Front Side Bus.

I gave it some thought and think K8L will be better (in terms of having the HT bus) unless Intel pushing out a new Socket with new (faster) Interconnection.

Check out XS and someone already got a ES Kentsfield running at 3.xGhz

Althought it doesn't seems to be any slower with SuperPi but I think thats just not stressing the FSB to the point it limits performance.

CustomPC got some benchmarks form a reader who featured in the extreme overclocking feature a while back. He got one from a "contact" at intel for about £900.

In multithreaded games such as quake 4 it is twice as powerful as an fx62 iirc.

But other than that is there going to be ANY point in having one. Are programs and games goint to start utilising this kind of technology?

When more software is written to handle dual core, adapting it to handle threads on more than 2 cores shouldn't be an issue.

I still dont see the point. If it was between a 2ghz core 2 and a 1ghz 4 core then surely the dual would be more usefull as programs dont generally need as many cores.

Personally I always think it's games (and very few apps... like graphics and video) that really push the cpu... when more games support multi-core .. you'll certainly notice the difference between single and multicore systems.

Probably atm that would be true mut with proper multi-threaded software it would probably work out faster.
