    Thecus & slimserver

I want a small dedicated slimserver box (to run music to my sqeezebox).

Could be windows or Linux based (I am moderately competent with Linux)

I have seen the Thecus N2100 fairly cheap on scan, it looks like it can take plenty of disc space.

Has anyone succesfully installed slimserver on one of these?

    thanks - could be good.
I'll keep an eye on these - they're out of stock at present.

I rather fancy the build it yourself option - I pick the disks (still haven't gotten over sneding sooo... many returns to IBM) & I also get to keep the s/w uptodate

There is lots of discussion about the TS-101 over on the SlimDevices forum. It is supplied to Progressive Computing (www.cooltopia.com) from TW and they set up the hard drive and install slimserver. You can get bare units from Multi Task Computing (www.multitask-computing.co.uk) and i think you just download a version of slimserver from slim themselves (at least that is how the updates are going to be delivered).

They are quite powerful for the size. They can run the AlienBBC plugin (RealMedia decoding) which very few of the othe NAS boxes can do. I believe the guy from Progressive managed to get it to stream two different radio streams, but performance of the rest of the system was sucky, so they recomend one one AlienBBC stream at a time.

As for getting slimserver running on the Thecus, i have no idea how you would go about that. Might be worth asking over the the SD forums, a lot of knowledgable guys there.
