    Question First PC Build

    Hi all!

I'm about to start my first ever PC build. I've got a pretty good idea what to do, but I'm not totally sure what to buy in the first place. My budget is no more than £850. Below is a list of what I'm thinking of getting. Any comments on whether it's all compatible and any suggetsions on alternatives would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

    Mobo - Abit KN9-SLi, Socket AM2
CPU - Athlon Dual Core 4600+, AM2 skt
Memory - 2Gb Corsair TwinX XMS 2 (Manuf code: TWIN2X2048-6400)
    Graphics - Leadtek 7900GTX Extreme, 512Mb
    Case - Xclio SuperTower
    Power - Xclio 550W X14S4P3

lol mate its only a matter of time before you get told that conroe is the way and you spec changes for ever, rightly so conroe does beat the hell out of am2, also wouldnt recomend xclio products, get a seasonic or a tagan or even a hiper

As far as i read, the cooler on the XFX 7900GTX is quieter than the Leadtek one, so you may want to look into that instead. I have the XFX one and i don't hear a sound out of it, it's totally silent.

I have the same RAM too, albeit on a different mobo but it looks ok to me. Not sure about the cpu as i have never had AMD so better let someone else answer that.

That's true, i went the conroe way with an E6600 but i guess for £850 you can't get all that stuff and an E6600, you'd prolly have to get a lower one.

And yeah seasonic is what i got, the S12, i reckon its good and quiet (the 500W one) although i can't speak for the 600W which you may want if you plan to SLI.

Actually I don't recommend conroe, but allendale is a great value for money processor You can get an allendale system for under 850.

I personally have tried out both the e6300 and e6600 conroe's and for the price i would def go with the 6300 which can hit the 2.8 mark no probs. Where as the 6600 has difficulty over 3.2 or sometimes 3.0.

I would get a decent board like an asus p5b and teh 6300 which will be very fast with some nice ram like the G.SKILL HZ.

Regards to graphics card all depends on the size of monitor lcd you have. I have a 24" that means i need the top card. anything like 1600X1200 then you could be fine with a 7600gt i like the 7900GTX.

a nice 500w psu would be great no need for fancy ones. Keep everything in budget. You will be very happy with what you get from you are looking to build good luck.
