Help with chipset fan

hey ive got a ABIT NF7-S V2.0, nForce2-Ultra 400, Socket-A, ATX, Firewire, AGP8X motherboard and recently ive noticed that my fan on it started clicking and otherwise slowing down from time to time essentially showing signs of failure its past warranty time to replace motherboard so id like some advice on what fan i need to get to replace it and instructions as on how to.

ill be gratefull for any info on what to replace it with since its probably gonna fail very soon since its started this.

zalman passive heatsink will do fine for that as long as you have half decent airflow through the case. i think the vantec iceberq fits as well, but its been a long time since i tinkered with one of those

you might just be best to get a nice passive heatsink for it rather than another fan, i believe zalman do some nice ones atm

Just to say I fitted a Zalman on my NF7-S v2 and it worked fine - easy to install but does require taking the motherboard out to fit it Took me about 10 mins, and that included unplugging everything from my mainboard

any chance of a link or 2 for which one i should get so it fits my motherboard? i dont want to end up buying something that wont fit.

Zalman do a couple - This is the deluxe one, and this is the one I've got.

Well known that these fans on the nf7/s get noisey or quit, the zalman will cool this no problem, abit also do a replacement, £6 iirc, but not worth, go passive a silent

yeah ive ordered one from dabs its really annoying its fine if im not doing anything short of the annoying clicking whine noise, but if i start doing something intensive like a game it overheats i think and my graphics on the screen get corrupted so i have to reboot.

While you're in there replacing the chipset fan, I would be sure to clean out the whole case and clean every single fan in there, including your vga card. You shouldnt be getting any artifacts on screen.

Nope, thats true, and sound advice whenever you work in a pc. Overheating components can cause other problems, though graphics corruption is usually driver/card temp related

well i didnt have any artifacts with this gfix card b4 my chipset fan started to fail so i dont think the gfx card card is at fault although ill have dkmech have a look at the thing when the cooler arrives he should be able to tell whats what.

Ive not heard of chipset overheating causing graphical corruption. An overheating chipset usually results in lockups and random restarts.

Just double check the temps and give it a good clean. A can of compressed air is usually good for cleaning components as theres no chance of ESD. Hoovers are not advisable due to ESD
