Which one would you go for? SATA or IDE?
I need a new Hard drive and not sure which to go for.

What motherboard/chipset you got?
Checked your system spec. Get SATA, run it off the NVIDIA SATA controller and it'll be nice and quick.
No point getting ATA/IDE any more unless you don't have any SATA ports.
Do i need SATA drivers with my setup?
Thats what i thought. I was looking at getting a Seagate 7200.10 Hard drive. Is it better to get the 16mb version over the 8mb one?
Also, are the 7200.10 Seagate's better than the 7200.9 ones?

Is RAID really worth it?
Nope, RAID isn't really worth it.
SATA and IDE are pretty much the same speed like for like, but newer drives are only SATA. Plus SATA is much easier to cable and connect, so there's no real advantage to going IDE.
16mb cache doesn't make any noticble difference either, but it doesn't hurt things. I would go for 7900.10 over the 7900.9 becuase usually drives get tweaked over time to better serve typical usage. If you're really concerned check out the platter densities and reviews on www.storagereview.com.
Thanks
Lots of people on the net saying that the Seagate 7200.10 drives are very noisy! Anyone her confirm that?
I quite like the Samsung Hard Drives myself. Still not sure wether or not to go SATA or IDE!!
I have 4 x 7200.10 in a RAID array and must say they are quieter then the Maxtor DiamondMax 10s they replaced.

Thants good to know. Can you hear them much?
The 7200.10's are quite new i think.
I thought the 7200.9 were IDE and the 7200.10 were SATA
sata space efective, and transfering data seemed faster to me via sata. i would buy sata just because of the ease of the connectors
