speaker advice

It appears in a moment of enthusiasm, i turned the volume up to high while listening to the chain by fleetwood mac. My Cambridge Soundworks 2.1 digital speakers now have an annoying crackly sound and need replaceing

What would people suggest as an alternate set? I have a x-fi sound card so can accept up to 7.1 speakers, but my room is rather small and so there is limited space to spread them around...I may just about be able to get away with 5.1 speakers although 2.1 will be acceptable.

Are there many digital speakers out there? Is it even worth getting digital speakers again?

My budget can probably stretch to 100£, maybe a little more if they are exactly what i want

5.1 in a small room will probably be a bit of a waste, as you often need to turn them up a bit and need some reasonable space in which to properly enjoy it.

I was in the same situation, and tried a Phillips 5.1 that had small high quality satellites hut it was not very satisfactory (even though the product itself was very good).

I replaced it with Altec Lansing MX5021 and I can thouroughly recommend this, and at way less than half the price of the 5.1 it replaced. Much better IMHO than Logitech or Creative - and I listened to them all!

Better to spend money on a quiality 2.1 than an indifferent 5.1 for similar money..... if you can get 5 speakers for the same price as a system that has only 2 then the sound quality is going to suffer - it has to.

idd i thourghly (cant spell ) suggest Loigtech Z-2300's they are about 80 quid and they really will deafen you if you turn them up to the max! i have them and they are amazing!

Aego M 2.1s come widely recommended. If you're coming from a decent set of speakers, anything for around £100 above 2.1 will likely not sound as nice.

Hi pak000, Can I ask what You use Your PC for, gaming, music or movies or a combination? I only ask because You can get very different results from PC speaker setups in 2.0,2,1,3.1..and so on..

Then I'd go for a good quality 3.1 setup. Use 2.1 for Your tunes and when You fancy a movie or whatever switch it to 3.1 so You get the centre channel working. Mind it all depends on how much You want to spend really. If Your not bothered about spending £100 or less then the choice is overwhelming. Push up the price a bit and things get easier. Though that soundcard You've got, You dont really want to spoil the performance bye throttlin it with nasty boxes, Do Yer? I know its not much help but I hope it points You in the right direction.

i am also buying me some new speakers, like many said a good 2.1 set is a lot more sharp and balanced than a sloppy 5.1. but dont be tricked nirvana cant be achieved with only 2 speakers and a sub.

Anyway i am getting myself a good 2.1 set, not looking yet so i cant help that much for now.
