Skt939 upgrade
I'm currently running a 3000 venice core at 2.5Ghz but i am thinking that i should probably upgrade to a dual core processor, while the are still avalible.
I was wondering if anyone could advise me on weather spending the extra £30on the 4200 is worth it over the 3800?
Also do they take much more power than the venice cores as i want to avoid buying a new power supply if i can. I'm running a nexus 400w at the moment, which works perfectly.

They do take more power, but its pretty negligable....your PSU will be fine if it is already.
As for 3800 or 4200.......it is only 30quid and the 4200 may clock higher if you are thinking of pushing the new CPU.

Well, dual core processors arent going anywhere for socket 939. Only the toledo cores have been discontinued, but the manchesters are still in production, so dont rush to get one.
As for the 3800 or the 4200, tough question, if you plan on overclocking then its probably worth getting the 3800 and saving the money as you should easily surpass 4200 speeds. It just depends whether your mobo can handle high HT? Otherwise the 4200 is better because of the higher multiplier.
Your PSU sounds like a generic one, couldnt really say whether you need to upgrade it without knowing what the rest of your system was and the number of amps on the 12v rail(s)?

Actually nexus is far from generic, although depends on how old it is.
I'd also love a dual core upgrade, but it's tough to decide whether to do so, in light of Core 2 Duo. For me, i want Core 2 Duo ultimately, but can't afford to get the whole motherboard/cpu/ram bits that i'd need right now, so i am sitting tight.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for the replys, it's a nexus 4090. I'm maybe gonna see if i can come up with the readys for the cheapest conroe chip/motherboard and ram.
