    adsl modem

    i need to buy a new modem as my old fujitsu usb modem has died. and i was wondering about buying a pci one, is there really much difference between a usb one and a pci one

    YER pci is faster most of the time for some reason and all so free's up a usb port

    ok mate cheers so there is no major drawbacks with a pci card

    I'v used used a PCI one for the past 6 months with no issues at all. Probably the most stable thing in my rig

    have a look here i was looking at them, but then bought one 2nd hand off the forums for £20 havent had a single problem with it

    Wrong, there's nothing between a good router (virata chipset in my case) and an AccessRunner PCI card.

    Only difference is the CPU usage, only a few per% on an Athlon 2700+

    I have both, and compared both.

    Chipsets wont effect your ping too much, although if your really concious, look on www.adslguide.org.uk . The AccessRunner series all got the lowest latency.

    Not that it matters if your crap

    surely he was talking about a usb modem not a router? in which case pci would be preferable to a usb modem. or did i miss something?
