Lightbulb Is this a wise move!!

I have been looking at upgrading my PC for a while
and am seriosly tempted to buy this!

Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 775, 2.67 GHz, 1066MHz FSB, Conroe Core, 4MB Cache, Retail
    £354.37

    ASUS P5W DH Deluxe i975X, S775, PCI-E (x16), DDR2 533/667/800, SATA II, SATA RAID, ATX
    £147.17

    512MB XFX 7950GT, PCI-E (x16), Mem 1400 MHz, GPU 550 MHz, 24 Pipes, 2xDual Link DVI-I/HDTV
    £211.21

    2Gb (2X1Gb) CorsairTwinXXPERT LED, DDR2 PC6400 (800), 240 Pins,Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 4-4-4-12, EPP
    £281.58

    Zalman CNPS9500-LED Aero Flower Cooler (Socket 478, LGA775, 754, 939 and 940)
    £33.48

    250 Gb Seagate ST3250620AS Barracuda 7200.10, SATA300, 7200 rpm, 16MB Cache, 8.5 ms, NCQ
    £54.74

    TOTAL £1,096.34

However the things that are holding me back are should i wait for
DX10 cards and Quad core to be released??

even if i dont buy Quad core or a DX 10 cardwill i see a price noticable price drop in some of the above??

also does any one know why RAM is so expensive at the mo ive been looking at the RAM i want for a couple of months and it only used to be round the £200 mark!??

so long story cut short just looking for opinions on some of the above!

    Thanks in advance!

If you've got the cash, buy it. It will always be cheaper if you wait a couple of cmonths (except for the RAM, as now with both AMD and Intel using DDR2, demand has risen).

Waiting for a DX10 card has it's merits, in that we should hopefully see a knock on effect to the no-DX 10 cards.

As for Quad Core, I've only just upgraded to dual. I get nice fast context switches but don't see any benefit from upgrading further.

    Corsair Air 540, Asus Prime X570-Pro, Win 10 Pro, AMD R9 3900X, Corsair HX 750, EVGA 1080 Ti, 2x Corsair 2TB MP600, 2x 2TB WD20EZRX, 4x8GB Corsair Dominator, custom watercooled (single loop, 2 rads)
    Corsair 550D, Asus X470-Prime Pro, Win 10 Pro, AMD R7 2700, Corsair RM750i, Asus GTX780 Poseidon, 2x Sammy 500GB 970 EVO, 2x 2TB Seagate Barracuda, 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance, custom watercooled (single loop, 2 rads)
    Synology DS918+ w/ 2xWDC Green 3TB + 2x Seagate Barracuda 6TB, N2200 w/ 2xSammy 1.5TB
    backup:
    Corsair 500R, Gigabyte GA-Z97MX Gaming 5, Win 10 Pro, i5 4690, Corsair HX750i, Sapphire Fury X, 256GB Sammy SM951 M.2 (System), WD SE16 640GB, 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance, Corsair H100i

Looks good, but I would recommend:

E6600 and overclock - it's very easy, and you'll save a few quid
RAM seems expensive for what it is... but haven't looked around recently
I would get something like the X1950GT for £130, no point spending all that cash only to have the high end stuff be worthless next month.

If you are going to buy a high-end graphics card, you'll want a matching high-end monitor.

^^ agreed, unless you have a 20" or above, you'll not notice the difference in frame rates.

Another vote for the E6600 over the E6700. Its a no brainer really. P5B over the P5W for me as well. Unless you want the flashing lights, just go for the standard Corsair 6400 ram (281 sounds expensive for that particular ram anyway)

If the previews of the GeForce 8800 are anything to go by, the first generation of DX10 cards will be best avoided. I think it's going to be a year or so before DX10 cards will be realistic or really necessary.

If you're set on an nVidia card then get the 7900GTO for around £160-£170, it will give simliar if not better performance to the 7950GT for less cash.
