Best LGA775 air cooler

I've been watercooled for over a year now, but I'm pondering getting rid and going back to good air. So what's the best air cooler for LGA775, in terms of cooling perf/noise these days, especially if one fancies a mid-level overclock on one's C2D?

I have a Scythe Ninja from our good friends at Scan, massive HSF and a near silent 120mm fan included.

Currently got my Conroe 6300 @ 2.25Ghz on a flawed Abit AB9 Pro - there is a bios update for the board though which should enable a better overclock.

Make sure it fits in your case though, when I say its massive I mean it

The Scythe Ninja is good but if you want to pay a bit less go for the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro.

I have the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro cooling my E6300 in a Jeantech Phong II case. When running Windows the HSF doesn't even spin up as the CPU never gets above 25degC!

When it does run, you can't hear it so I'd recormmend this one.

Note: I removed the supplied thermal paste and replaced it with a thin layer of Arctic Silver 5 as it's meant to be a few degrees C better than normal thermal paste.

Have a ThermalTake Big Typhoon cooling my conroe.......very happy about its cooling, just don't like how you need to fit/remove it.

Have an Arctic Freezer sat waiting for my next motherboard replacement...

I have just bought a Scythe Infinity for my 6300, unfortunately it does not fit in my case.

After reading numerous reviews it appeared to be the best (if it fits in your case)

I now have the option of either sending it back or selling it on...PM me if you are interested.

The Scythe's are regarded as being the very best, possibly with Zalmans. The Arctic coolers are nearly as good, but often 3 to 4 times cheaper.
If you dont have masses of heat to disperse (ie you've got a Core 2 Duo not overclocked like a volcano) go for Arctic Cooler.

According to this review, Zalman CNPS9500-LED looks really good. It even outperforms Ninja and XP-120 but the noise level is greater because it uses 92mm fan instead of 120mm fan. Read here,

For Scythe products range, I think Infinity is the best followed by Mine and Ninja Plus. But they are all huge so you may encounter incompatiblity issue with your mobo. I personally prefer Mine as it has recieved best product award for cpu cooler in Japan.

Some shop say it's not compatible with socket775, but it should come with LGA775 clip according to manufacturer's website.

I've got the Zalman 9500-LED and its great. With the fan on 1600rpm its silent and the processor has never gone above 40C.
