Hi all,
I need to put together a new rig for myself as the old one is going to a new home, these are the parts I have researched and compiled so far:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 775, 2.4 GHz, 1066MHz FSB, Conroe Core, 4MB Cache, Retail
ASUS P5B Deluxe/WiFi-AP iP965, S775, PCI-E (x16), DDR2 533 667 800, SATA II, SATA RAID, ATX
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC5300 667MHz Value DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB5300DC) (MY-034-GL)
Coolermaster Mystique 631 Black Aluminum Case w/o PSU
600w Seasonic S12-600 SLi Ready Silent PSU 2xPCI-E 4xSATA 120mm Fan ATX1.3/2.01
320Gb Seagate ST3320620AS Barracuda 7200.10, SATA300, 7200 rpm, 16MB Cache, NCQ
256MB Sapphire Radeon X1900 GT PCI-E (x16) 1200MHz GDDR3 GPU 575MHz 36 Pipes CrossFire
NEC ND-5170A-0B Black x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer DVD-Writer OEM UK
Don't think I've missed anything essential (soundcard, better hsf will be added later) this comes to around £900 which is really the top end of what I want to spend. I don't plan to overclock, hence the cheaper memory and more money put on the cpu.
As for usage - pretty typical I guess - I play the usual fps, rts games etc and edit the odd dvd, films, music etc.
So, how does the spec look and will it all work in harmony? Is there anything I could cut back on without dramatically affecting performance? Finally, is this reasonably future proof? - say if wanted to upgrade in a couple of years time
any help/suggestions much appreciated.
