AMD X2 Advice please
Hi Peeps
got some money together to upgrade to an X2 skt 939 cpu.
i was looking at a 4800 with 1mb cache on each core runiing at 2.4ghz for £200
then i say the 4400 with 1mb cache on each core running at 2.2Ghz for £150.
surely 200mhz isnt work £50!!! do these overclock well gotta be easy to squeeze 200mhz from it.
any thoughts??

The 4400 is discontinued now, or are you getting them from ebay?
If you can afford it, i'd go for the 4800.
Hexus did a review on it here

If you can pick up the 4400 £50 cheaper, then I would.
It will be damn easy to overclock it to make up that 200MHz.....and then some ;)
-
one shop seems to have stock of the 4400's.
cheers for the link.....hmmm choices choices

in the benchmarks it seems that the fx-55 beats it in most cases, the fx 55 is only a 2.6 ghz single core correct? so i have an opeteron at 2.8 also would be alot faster than a 4800 x2?

For 150quid, the 4400+ is a good chip. Mine clocks to 2.6ghz with ease, had it a year though.
-
Not seen a toledo X2 that wont clock to 2.6ghz yet. Of course this depends on the rest of your system, but if you have even mild experience in overclocking it should be easy.
-
Got my 4400 going at 2.6ghz no problem on allmost stock voltage. Will try further when I can be bothered:)
Incidentaly, when I orderd the part from Scan, it disappeared off the site a few hours later...

You could save even more money and find a X2 3800. Most can get up to at least 2.6 easily.

Ditto what Azza said, there really isn't much point in spending more when you can overclock and get the same. The money saved would make much more difference with a bigger screen or better graphics card.
