Fan Controller

Hi all,

I'm in the process of putting together a small wish list of components and one that I know a bit about is fan controllers. What I don't know is which ones are currently considered the best and which ones would suit my 'plain and simple' style.

I did fancy getting a Sunbean Rheobus, but can only find them on fleabay and from Canada as well

Any suggestions more than welcome.

Will be powering 4 fans @ 5v max.

i have a sunbeam as well, they are great at what they do, but some of the parts are really badly made and the leds are seriously blinding, but moddable.

I just pushed the LEDs in so can still see them but not as bright as they were originally - is that what you did?

I think most if not everyone mods those LEDs

Will also dry paint over the LEDS to dull them down a bit - thanks for the tip about them being bright.

yep, i pushed them back, but still too bright, so pushed the whole unit back into the case by about an inch and then put a Lian-Li optical drive bezel over the top and voila, its stealthed and i can see again

Ive had the sunbeam for about 3 years and I cant fault it at all. Looks very slick in my Praetorian. Below 7v is red and above is blue.
The LED's are brighter then the sun, but as mentioned you can push them in a bit and I also use a bit of bent card wedged in between it and my dvd drive when I need total darkness.

Also worth mentioning that the LED's are not fixed to the board, so you can take em out and add your own dual colour leds.

I think the current contest for quietest fan is between the Nexus 120mm and the Sharkoon 120mm 1000rpm.

The Nexus 120mm (1000rpm) is a Yate Loon D12SL (1350rpm) with inbuilt resistor to reduce rpms. Nexus retails for around £14 in the UK.

If you were going to buy the Sunbeam from the Jab-Tech I would recommend a couple of the Yate Loon D12SL as that is a cracking price. Someone on another forum managed to get 6 for £18 (delivered to UK).

I just use normal YS techs. Runs silent when the rpms are droped with the fan controller but I also have lots of extra cooling power in reserve.

The Yate Loon push around 45-50 cfm where as the Sharkoon and Nexus around 37cfm.

Depends on how silent you want the system - with regards undervolting low cfm fans?
