Upgrade time :) check my parts please.

Hi, I'm thinking of upgrading this week, mainly due to my MB dying in my main rig, so I thought instead of replacing just the MB I would do most of the system

To go with the parts below I already have a X1950 XTX, 2 200gb SATA II HDD's and a OCZ Modstream 520w PSU.

The only thing I'm thinking is that the memory might be a little over the top? I'm not planing on overclocking at all, so maybe I could get away with some cheaper stuff? Also what aftermarket coolers are good for the conroes, or is the retail HS good enough?

Apart from that, how does it look please?

if your not planning on overclocking then get rid of that ram and get some value stuff its just not worth the extra money unless you oc...

Does it not have to be PC6400 ram for the conroes? Sorry I'm a bit behind these days with a lot of stuff. Could you please link me some ram that will be fine.

erm no in fact most motherboards will run at PC5300 (667) so thats not an issue

Can you help out here The CPU runs at 1066 right? but the MB I'm looking at only goes to 800 and if I buy 667 memory does that mean the cpu will only run at 667?

Do I need a 1066 mb and ram to get the full power from that cpu?

the reviews I have seen state that Conroes running with PC6400 RAM run appreciably faster than those with PC5300 RAM

Conroe FSB is 266, so you only need 533 RAM.

But, if you are buying a P5B deluxe and an E660 and looking at PC6400 RAM....hell you might as well overclock that sucker to hell and back

I have the same setup and the performace from the ultra-high FSBs you can reach, is quite something Currently running north bridge at 2400MHz!

The Scythe Ninja Plus is pretty good, at around £30. That's what I've got, and I'm getting another for my core 2 rig...

And just chuck a couple of 120mm fans on that and it'll be nice and cool for ya
