Unhappy Overclock Potential? Or Useless Paperweight?

Im in a bit of a hard decision, im getting a new rig, but i want too overclock the one i have at the moment...but im new to o/c'ing.
Thus, i turn to you for help. Please would you give me some advice on the overclocking potential of my rig.(And how too do it step by step )
    Here are the specs:

    Mobo: Gigabyte GA-8IK1100 (Rev 2.x)
    Cpu:Intel Pentium 4 2.00ghz
    Cpu cooler: Gigabyte 3d Rocket.GH-PCU23-VH
Ram: 2x 256 266mhz, 1x 512mb 266mhz ddr + 3x xcilo heatsink/spreaders(I cannot tell you the make of the ram, as i cant see the information on them anymore =). Theyre 3 different makes. One being a samsung, thats all i can remember, sorry.)
    Gpu:Siluro FX5600 DT 128MB

I know its not the best rig ever, but its all i have untill i purchase a new one.

Also, i am going to be purchasing a gaming rig to build myself, and i dont want too spend £1000 on something that will only perform its best when it is used as a giant paperweight.

Would you be able to tell me if there is going to be any compatability issues in my new pc that i am going to buy.Im not sure if the psu will support core 2 duo, if the motherboard will support the ram, if the cpu cooler is good for the rig, if the case + cooling will be sufficient. I would also like too overclock this too 3ghz if possable. =)

Also if there are any pro's + Cons', Up's 'n' Down's with this setup.

Or if there is anything better i can create for £950.

    Specs:
    CPU: Intel Core2 Duo e6600 2.4ghz
    Mobo: Asus p5wdh deluxe i975x
    Ram: 1gb (2x512mb matched pair) corsair twinx xms2 ddr pc6400(800mhz)cas 5-5-5-15
    Psu: 550W xclio x14s4p3
    Hd: 80gb samsung hd080hj 7200rpm sata300
    Cpu cooler: Silverstone sst-nt06
Gpu: 512mb sapphire radeon x1900xt (I hear this is discontinued now...and idea on a decent ATI gpu for £200 or less)
Case:Aspire X-Cruiser Black Midi Tower with Window
    Headset:Raptor Gaming H1 7.1 USB Headset

If you could help me, i would greatly appreciate it.
(Oh and all the parts are coming from scan.co.uk, as i live near and i want them asap.)
    Thanks.

Edit: My new rig will be for gaming mostly, and a little light sequencing on Cubase. =)

    ok.

i would ditch the psu and case, and headset.

get 2 gig of ram and a bigger hdd as for 5 quid more u can almost double.

the reasons for the above, that headset at the silly price it is is no better than my zalman 6.1 surround headphones at £30.

xclio arent a great make imo, i would get a hiper psu for a good value chouce with power, or a seasonic. after all its the most important part of your pc. as for a case i would go for something like a jeantec phong if your on budget.

2 gig of ram is a must for all new conroe systems and vista will need 2 gig to be silky smooth like xp needs 1 gig really lol. i have seen systems people have built on here for that price which look alot nicer on paper. if i had more time id do a spec but i dont atm

i can understand why you said ditch the headset, but if you look at the spec, there is no soundcard. As the raptor headset has an USB 7.1 soundcard built into it. =/ so thats saving the £xx amount on a soundcard.

Take the ''Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Music Sound Card OEM £56.58'' for instance, £57+£30 = £87, where as the raptor 7.1 headset is £66 with built-in soundcard. =/

The case, i need a case =/ or i would just have the stuff sitting about, and i want it too look decent and flashy at the same time

Thankyou for the reply, and a build from you would be excellent.

Edit: I wont use vista untill 2008 =/ i hate upgrading my OS, it took me 3 years to update too xp. O_o.

why would u need a soundcard? the short answer really is you dont need one, the onboard sound on those motherboards is good, i just think lots of raptor products are a gimmick, i dont use a soundcard doesnt affect my gaming skills, i know people that have played in professional leagues using rubbish headsetsd or even speakers.

the case is vital i know, but a decent case is vital i have never heard of that one.. im sure give it a while and you will be recomended the akasa eclipse, and the antec p180, these are great cases but are expensive..

Oh i didnt notice the 7.1 Audio I/O on the mobo. sorry ^^;.
Any clue to what headset i could get then? I want too get a 7.1 headset though, =/ .

Edit: I personally wouldnt get the antec p180, the hexus review showed that theres alot of problems encountered when fitting psu, and i have my doubts about the gpu holder/slot.

Yeah im thinking about that now, the fact you -can- fit a window too it made me change my mind about it, without the window, it sorta looks ugly too me =/ but thats just my 2 cents.

New problem is: its costing £460 for just the case+window+Mobo+Cpu. =/
leaving me with £470 for a cooler, ram, gpu, hdd, dvd/cd, psu,and one twinset of red neons. (I want a red rig =/)

    I allready have:
    2x akasa 2500rpm 80mm case fans
    2x akasa adjustable 2000-3500rpm 80mm case fans
    1x akasa HDD Cooler
    and a set of 4x red thumbscrews just for visual ^^;

So, £470 remaining for the rig.

I use these - perfect blend between performance & noise

And have a fan controller sent with them

and with re: Microphone - I've got a Logitech Desktop Mic (USB), which allows me to use whichever pair of headphones I want

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=402843

Would it not be easier to get those instead of a headset + a seperate mic for £40.

edit: Do you mean this mic? http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=285761

Another edit: The fan controller goes in the floppy drive bay correct? Will the wire reach from the back of the case to the bay? and 2x fans = 2x controllers? So no floppy drive?

Ah so the medusa is ok then, im used too a face mic, i prefer it as i sometimes have minimal space on my desk .

ive got £405.21 left for the ram, cpu cooler, hdd, dvd/cd,and gpu.

Are the physics cards worth digging deep for?

    Suggestions on Ram/Cpucooler/hdd/dvd/gpu?

Thanks alot for this harry =)
