Question New Build: First Boot Help

I bought the following Components recently as i wanted to upgrade my rather stone age pc:

    CPU: Intel Pentium-D 805 2.6GHz
    MOBO: Asrock Conroe945G-DVI uATX
    RAM: CORSAIR VS 1GB(2X512)DDR2 5400
    GPU:256MB SAPPHIRE PCIE X1600PRO
    PSU:480W XCLIO SCF/aPFC/PCIE PSU

After I did a first boot and installed all necessary drivers, I noticed a distinctive smell after roughly 10 mins uptime. My first reaction was the thought that something is burning, however after a little while the it wasnt smelling a strong as it was a few mins earlier. Could this be the smell of a new psu at first use?

Everything is running fine, my temps are:

    Board: 42 °C (Idle)
    CPU: 47 °C (Idle)

    is this ok?

Perhaps it was just dust burning off something.

Always worrying when that happens, but temps look generally fine (remember that the Pentium D will be hotter than most other things, and if you chose to start overclocking you will probably be looking at temps 10 or 20 degrees hotter).
    Only time will tell.
I once had a similar experience with a new motherboard, heard a very quiet crackle and then began smelling burning plastic - very worrying for 5 minutes until I realised it was a neighbour burning some rubbish and i'd left my window open
I'm commenting on an internet forum. Your facts hold no sway over me.

My new PSU had a slightly acrid smell upon first use, but it went away fairly quicky - it was probably just heating up some cleaning solvent.

Thank you all for putting my mind to rest, I was worried for a second there that I had missed something. This is my first build by the way . Am now confident that I can build a pc from scratch. Didnt really do much in the bios except set the time and date plus check if all settings where up to scratch.
