Well my good comrade in bling, you know my feelings on the Raptor X (cast your mind back), but as for the swapping of details, just re-install (so much easier and better for your PC)

Otherwise look up Acronis and use their free software trial version. The backups will be maoosive, but that's the best way (I know) to swap everything (OS and main programs) across.

You could use something like Norton Ghost to copy your disk...

Have heard good and bad things with Ghost. I used Acronis not so long ago and it was faultless.

Aye, it was years ago last time I had to do this, looks like Acronis is now the software of choice!

It looks very good when reading their website. Dont try it without backing up your valuable data though!

I had to move up to a 250GB drive from 200GB and to put it simoply Acronis is so simple to use and will even re-size partions if thats what you want it to do, seriously good piece of kit.

And if you have the cash for a Raptor X go for it, although why not go for the non windowed version and save a few quid? I know I'd do it if I had the cash.

Im just reading up on the raptor drive, I didnt know they were SATA 150 and not SATA 300, why is there no SATA II on the newer raptors?

Im definatley gonna be putting one on my new build though.

For the most part, it certainly is. For booting off the CD, it works with everything I've thrown at it - SATA and RAID arrays included - whereas Ghost will only work with standard IDE devices (and SATA drives in IDE emulation) by default unless you supply it with a specific driver. True-Image can also accept 3rd party drivers of course, but I'm yet to find a need for it.

That said, I still find Ghost better in a corporate environment - much simplier and cheaper to use Ghost with PXE than True-Image in my experience.

Because it's not needed? Average transfer speeds are something like 75mb/s, not even half the SATA150 limit. Even burst speeds probably wouldn't exceed the limit.

The price difference is about a fiver at the moment so...

If you get a 150gig version, dont bother with the window, unless you got a case that can show it off and there aren't many.

Another option is two smaller ones in a RAID0. Theres 2, 36gig versions in the FS forum right now(was considering having a four disk RAID0 with them, but I talked myself out of it). You'll need another disk for storage most likely though.

I have 2 36gig ones in a RAID0, and it's silly fast.

I think the single 150gb raptor will be more than rapid enough for me...not too much of a diff for gaming between 2 in raid 0 and a single drive...can't warrant spending 300 odd quid on HDDS....as much as I'd like to my Mrs would have me hanged!
