Intel conroe x6800 extreme - Overheating!

Well I finaly got my PC all setup, thanks to the guys here for helping with the setup ideas I will get some images soon when i can find a camera. I do have one problem though - Recently the CPU is overheating and reboots my PC. The strange thing is, when using speedfan Temp2 only gets up to around 46C (Which i believe is the cpu temp monitor, the highest temp being monitored). The highest i've seen it at is 46C which is about when it reboots.

The cpu is the only reason i can think of which is making my PC reboot at times of high load (when i'm playing 3 games on full graphics and watching a movie at the same time). Also at these times of high load, i touch my resovoir (of the water cooling setup) and the water seems quite warm even if I do have a 3x 120mm radiator.

Surly the new x6800 conroe extreme can run at temps higher than 46 degrees C? Is it the motherboard which automaticaly reboots the PC or the cpu when it gets hot and is there any way to increase the auto-reboot temp? Or do I really have to under-clock my cpu? At this moment in bios the clocking features all seem to be the defaults (I do not have them optimised).

    The setup:
    Windows XP Pro
Intel dual core conroe extreme x6800
    2GB DDRII 8500 RAM
    X1800 Radeon XL
    250GB HDD
Aqua computer watercooling with CPU block, GFX block and RAM block.

    Any ideas? Thanks :-)

I found speedfan to be somewhat unreliable at reading my Allendale temps.

I'd recommend running the Intel Thermal Analysis Tool first, to see if it is indeed reporting the correct temps (said utility can also put various loads/throttles on the CPU, to test at various settings).

    More info here:

Edit: If it is running at 46C, then I'd say it's perfectly within it's limits, but I'd be wary of where that's being monitored.
By the way, I can't see your motherboard make/model in your specs? Might want to chuck that in the mix, just in case

Ah thanks, you are right. Reaching temps of about 60 now. Looks like i will have to underclock :-)

what motherboard is it? is the cpu overclocked? if yes, what vcore?

46c under load is pretty good for stock, thats if it is correct. have you primed the system?

Hello! I have "Gigabyte S775 Intel 965P ATX GLan HD 8CH Audio ATX S/Pipe" seen here - http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?QuickLinx=4517

    Vcore - stats from speedfan show Vcore1: 1.28v, Vcore2: 1.82

I also have something to do with the CPU set to X11, i remember seeing it in bios, can't remember the name But its all pretty much defaults in bios.

Woooh i found the problem. When my PC was first up and running I checked out some overclocking software (as ya do) called EasyTune 5, (obviously wasn't that easy). Well anyway, I overclocked it and it froze my pc, i restarted and it froze again on startup. Now i was starting to get scared... But i rebooted again and it loaded up without freezing, but it seems easytune was still running in the background just not responding. Well I just uninstalled it and as soon as i did, the temp dropped 15 degrees to 40 (from the average of 55). My CPU usage has been running at 70% since i installed windows on my PC because of that damn program loading up not responding constantly. Now its running at 0.4% lol, time to really test how good this CPU is.

    Catch ya later
