    Question Core2Duo Mobo/Ram for 300 What do i want?200-300MAX

    right 300quid MAX.
6300 best bang for buck and overclocks well right?so thats -£130
would like SLi... so a geforce 7900GTO from msi thats that sorted so -£165
what motherboard (do i need via/nforce?what do they use now seems very vague...) what ram should i get?
and most importantly WHERE? UK ONLY suppliers please.
also how the hell do I find C2D on scan everytime i go to motherboards or cpu's cant find anything and yes i've scrolled through only way i find anything related is a banner that might be advertising C2D...
    cheers

Good riddance. Wish I'd done it about a year ago.

It will only overclock well if you dont scrimp on other parts, even then, its not guaranteed.

I think the GTO cards are 186 now arent they?

If you get an SLI board, you will most likely loose overclock potential for the cpu. Unless you have a massive resolution monitor, SLI is pointless.

Hey buddy, seems you're asking EVERY question possible using so many different threads. (Sometimes the question you ask makes me wonder whether you actually read previous reviews or threads around)

MOtherboards should be no different between INtel chipsets, you should know if you'd check forum threads around (here and other tech forums + REVIEWS), other than the usual bells and whistles. Overclocking headroom, just like during the P3, P4, AXP, A64 days.. it is all down to luck. Some 975 ICH have better headroom, some dont. They propagate between manufacturer, and there is no one manufacturer that has all the best OC bits. Same situation for 965s, many say they have better OC headroom, some disagree, some cant even get a decent OC out of an Allendale.

Memory, well, reading around will tell you that OCing memory isnt as niche as it first started out to be. PC2 memories is now binned in so many speeds its basically little need to OC anything. Besides, if you actually read carefully, not only do you not need a fast memory by using a divider (which in this case you can choose whichever without much advice and still be fine), C2D system do not benefit much from anything faster than DDR2667..

Lastly, everything still boils down to what you have initially as a support base system. PSU and such.
    Me want Ultrabook

Id reccomend a gigabyte DS3 and a decent graphics card,, like an X1900xt or an X1900gt (the HIS one in particular) overclockers.co.uk have them nice and cheap, although for £300 you wont get anywhere near that good, maybe a 6600gt -6800gt instead which is in your pricerange
