NVIDIA G80 pics have surfaced

my god thats quite a beast. certainly nothing like the size of a 7900gt. as they say it looks like its going to be crazy power hungry aswell. one thing of note tho is that the water cooled version still has a fan on it. and it got me wondering, has anyone alsed released a waterblock for a GPU (or cpu?) that has its own fan? surly that has to be the ultimate cooling? and if the fan spins slow enough it could still be very quiet

isnt there a thermaltake one with a fan on it?...seems a bit pointless though.

smaller pump due to less water needing to be shifted, smaller radiator due to less heat in the water.

can seeing it becoming a balancing act yeah. but there has got to be + points there

in theory. if you have a radiator the size of an 80/120mm fan with an 80/120mm fan cooling it attached to the CPU and the GPU. usually that would lead to shoddy cooling. but if the card and the processor provide there own cooling aswell then suddenly its a great way to get a cooler and quieter system?

this is but a guess. input?

maybe im just being picky (me picky?), but what is the point of watercooling the gpu and then putting a similar fan on it that would be on it if it was air cooled?

I think its just a gimmick to charge more for a watercooled version. Looking at the setup, if the rad part is right over the core (why?) then its not going to be very efficient, thats probably why the fan is there as well.

The only point in water-cooling is that you're shifting the heat to another place where you can use a larger radiator/fan assembly and thus either provide better cooling or lower noise. So I don't understand what they're trying to do with the cooling on this.

That thing is huge, and for those of us that already have watercooled systems it's pointless. It look bigger than 7900GTO/GTX's so it might be a full length card which would mean its a beast.

I wont be bothering on G80's to beging with, just worked out that I spent £380 on graphics cards in a year, £686 if you don't take selling the old cards into account. The first G80's are going to be around £400 I'm guessing and thats out of my price range now. External power suplpies as well supposedly? That'd be fun.

There is no way in h3ll im getting any DX10 cards right now, the cards run too hot, take up far too much power and are still massive

Ill wait probably 6 months before an upgrade

This card is probably going to be a highly-limited run just to provide a winning benchmark on review sites. Hopefully it won't take too much time for nvidia to get their act together and make a proper card with realistic power/cooling requirements for the retail market.
