    Cheaper in Singapore?

    Not sure if this is a hardware thread, or a find me a bargin, but general seemed the place to start, so....

    Going to Singapore for a couple of weeks later this month, and I'm in need of a replacement laptop (since my Sony GRX316MP gave up the ghost). I've seen a good deal with Dell for their Inspiron 9400 at the lovely price of 998.62 inc VAT, which I can then claim back making it around the £825 mark (specs at the bottom of the page if you're interested).

    Question is, does anyone know the market in Singapore, and do you reckon I'd be able to find something out there of similar quality, but at a cheaper price?

    Thats about 7 grand in Malaysia. If you'd visit Dell Asia Pacific website and configure from there..

    For 7 grand there, RM7,200+

    You get these upgrades for the price..

    C2D 1.66 ---> C2D 1.83
    2x512 ----> 2x1GB
    X1400 ----> 7900GS
    60GB ----> 80GB

    Warranty should remain the same..

    If you'd chip in another RM200 which is around £30.. you'd get a 2GHz C2D..

    EDIT: Thats what happens when you have Intel and Dell's OEM scattered all over Malaysia..

    Yeah, I just checked out the Singapore Dell, and it was about £910 for 2Gig Ram, 2.0GHz cpu, 80Gb harddrive (5400RPM rather than 60Gig 7200RPM here).

    So it's cheaper, but more hastle, no come back if it goes bust (or does the warrenty apply internationally?) and I'll have to get the inlaws to buy it for me for when I get out there....

    Is it worth it?

    you'll get Dell to fix your lappy here.. but I guess you'll have to pay some sort of a premium when the warranty comes. Or its just a matter of FedEX to Sginapore for an RMA..
