New P5B Deluxe won't post, any thoughts before I RMA?

Hi all,

Just got new bits yesterday and put the lot together.

The board won't post No beeps, no display, nothing. Tell a lie, it did post about 3 times but each time it froze within 5 minutes.

Have tried:

Reseating heatsink/fan
Clearing BIOS (worked once in that I got 1 beep followed by 3 short beeps which isn't in the manual)
Different gfx card
Disconnected all unnecessary stuff like drives, CD-ROM etc
Reseated memory

Nothing works

Any thoughts before I RMA this? I did notice that the backplate packet was open and had been rather dented.

What BIOS version are you running and what RAM do you have?

also, check the northbridge heatsink is making contact, they often dont. Take the board out of the case and set it up on some cardboard with just the bare minimum of stuff connected.

Can't remember BIOS version, as I wasn't paying attention the couple of times it POSTed.

I managed to get into the temp sensors when it ran for a few mins and CPU temp was around 32C and mobo (NB?) was 34C which is why I don't think it's overheating.

RAM is Corsair TWIN2XP2048-6400C4, 1Gb * 2.

I've requested it for return already since Scan don't get straight back to you anyways.

You could also try clearing the CMOS along with the BIOS? It's helped me out in the past.

Clunk might like to shed a 'more experienced' light on that.

Tried that a couple of times but made no difference Mind you I only did what it says in the manual.

Best bet is to either try and stick of slower generic RAM in it, or keep on power on/off until you get lucky and get in the BIOS.

If you can get in using either method, set the RAM voltage to 2.0v save and reboot pretty fast.....if that works, update to the latest BIOS.

The older BIOSes are VERY VERY picky about RAM. I had the same issue with mine and got it to turn on for a bit a couple of times but ultimately needed a slow stick of generic RAM to get me going.

Thanks again....plan for when I get home is:

1. Take mobo out and setup on it's own.
2. Use 1 stick of dad's Corsair memory which is fine on his P5B Deluxe with no problems

If this works then I'll try and flash the BIOS pretty quick.

Bonus...just noticed there was a new BIOS 2 days ago!
