    new gaming rig

    hi guys,

i am looking for some advice.

i am looking to build a new gaming rig that shall both provide ample performance at the moment but shall also provide a decent base to upgrade from in the future.

I am looking for the following:

1 - a motherboard, i currently run an athlon xp and am happy with AMD so i would like to stay with it. however i welcome all suggestions. i would like this mb to have SATA2 compatabilty, PCI express and also be an AM2 processor slot. with regards to the processor slot, i am basing this on what i see from sites so if you want to suggest otherwise feel free. i would also like support for dual core too.

    2 - Processor - Athlon 64 3800 or comparable.

    3 - 1 Gb of DDR2 ram

    4 - 300Gb HDD, pref SATA2.

5 - A decent video card. good enough to let me enjoy f.p.s. games for a year or so at a decent frame rate.

i have seen the following motherboards and was wondering if i could have some advice on them.

    Asrock AM2XLI-eSATA2 & ALiveSATA2-GLAN

I reckon i will have about £350 -£400 to spend on this machine.

Any advice would be welcome and warmly received. if there is any more info that i can provide , please let me know.

    thanks a lot guys

no mate, i am looking to use my exisiting case, psu and dvd/cd drives and all other ancillaries.

however with regard to the psu, i am unsure of the wattage required to drive all of this, could anyone suggest a wattage suitable.

my case is suitable for an atx mainboard with a fan on the side!!!

    cheers,

    Barry
