I'm currently playing games using the IC7 onboard sound but want to upgrade for something with better quality sound.
I have a sub and 4 speakers (Creative)
What card/s do people recommend for under £40 quid.
Many thanks

Audigy?
Hercules Gamesurround Fortissimo II?
Philips Acoustic Edge?
Dunno how much those are though, wouldn't think they're much deerer than £40-£50?
Audigy?
Hercules Gamesurround Fortissimo II
Out of them which would offer better quality and would i see much improvement over the IC7's onboard sound?
You'd see a higher increase in quality with the Hercules.
Does the IC7 have standard basic AC97 onboard sound? If so, you'll notice a huge improvement :)
With Creative cubes - you might as well stick with the onboard if its surround!
If not go for something cheap like the GameSurround II or MuseLt as you just won't get anymore from an Audigy or more with those speakers!
I agree with the cheaper Creative speakers, yes, but it's worth it if he upgrades them in the future to hvae a decent soundcard
Stay away from anything with a creative labs badge...there utter tosh tbh.
Personally i like the sound quality on Altec Lansing speakers, but the version i have and my mobo dont let you control the bass level.
as Howard said the Philips Acoustic Edge is a really good card. no crackle or pops. retails for around £60
Creative's speakers aren't top notch unless you buy the top of the range models which are pretty good.
The older Cambridge Soundworks speakers are fantastic IMO, my 2.1 Soundworks Digital speakers (about 3 or 4 years old or something) have excellent, crystal clear sound and are still working perfectly.
I've got a pair of those sitting here brand new. I've never even got around to breaking the seal on the box :eek:Quote:

They came with a system, but I've already got a good set of Yamaha speakers I was using.
I must try those Creatives some time :D
