external watercooling

I am seriously thinking about Watercooling my shuttle and have come up with the following inspired (or should that be insipid) paint plan.

This picture shows what my desk looks like

This what i intend to do to the shelves, the circle on the top drawer represents an intake for a 120mm fan with another on on the rear.

what do you reckon?

I have an external watercooling system hooked up to my PC atm. I wrote a long post about it a while back that got lost, so I never really bothered again, but here are a couple of pics. I made the radiator meself and it's completely passive, no fans anywhere.

Yes, I could easily have fitted it all in the borg cube, but not completely passively. External systems are definitely the way to go!

ooooooh, inspiration!

I really fancy a project like this but i never thought about actually making the radiator myself. the more i think about it the better an idea it seems.

We have loads of copper pipe in the cellar and all the tools for cutting and joining tube.

could be onto a winner here.

just need to decide what to use as a reservoir.

A garden pond, for that really out door in-door feel

hehe Just whack a filter on the end, so you dont suck up too many fishes, (althought it could be good for slow cooking...)

I did away with a pump/radiator & plumbed to directly into the mains. Throtle valve regulates pressure/flow, drains to the main external rainwater drainpipe. Silent as u like

this a very bad idea (you'd suck all kind of crap into your system, even with filters in place.

however, if you just ran copper piping into (and around) a pond, that'd work well.

The idea here is to fit the radiator into a desk drawer and have the res in another drawer. Will also probably have a seperate PSU to run the pump and fans in the top drawer.

but what kind of size tubing should i go for? what waterblock to choose?

thats VERY nice mate, did you put laquer on the copper to keep it looking nice? -how much did that big sheet cost¬!

Dont cost no extra, not metered, passes thro an activated carbon filter so no crap gets in. Works, s'all I care about.

The copper sheet is 2mm and cost a little over a ton. Laquering was the worst part, as I messed it up the first time and had to strip it all down again. I had it much shinyer the first time, and I guess if I'd put a few more days into it I could have had a mirror finish.

Soldering the pipework to the copper sheet was also a bit tricky. As you can see from the other pictures I had to take some quite extreme measures to get enough heat into the copper, my little blowtorch just didn't cut it. When one of the bits of wood I used to support the copper caught fire I was worried I'd never succed.

The heat spreads accross the sheet nice and evenly, which I guess is the important thing. It's currently running an XP2500+ at 11x200 at 30C, and keeps my toes warm.
