    FX55 amd how good

how good is an amd fx55 currently riunning a 3500+ want to know how much difference i'd see putting in an fx55 looking at a san diego core on 90nm so i still keep my sse3 instructions but will have 400mhz more speed before overclocking and double cache looking at paying about £70 difference after selling my 3500

does anyone think this is worth it

also please noone tell me to buy a conroe as i am not interested i have some of the best ddr ram around and don't wanna switch my motherboard over so have no interest in conroe at all just want to know if it is worth this switch

    cheers for your help

How much is the FX55 you are looking at? Scan have S939 Opterons going for a song this weekend on the today only offer - right up to the 150, and we all know that the Opterons are excellent o/cers.

use it for gaming current cpu will hit about 2.5ghz before it starts to struggle and overheat

the fx 55 is going for about £110

and i also don't want to do some huge oc to get speed out i can't afford to replace my cpu every few months so want something that i can match speed with myddr433 and have it running fast

i oc'ed my 3000+ to 284 fsb on h20 and it lasted about 3 months and then the mem controller went wrong

Nope, personally would not bother, scan TO 3200 venice £38, I have had 3 E6 3200 venice and they all hit 2.6, best was 2.9. The cache question, well running an opteron and venice side by side, I would say you would be hard pushed to notice the extra cache. If it was me, I would take a pot shot @ the £38 venice, when you are over the £100 mark, you have to be looking@c2d or if you need to keep board/mem then I would be looking at a x2 3800

i dont agree with the above an fx-55 will pass 3 gig, and at that speed is a very fast cpu, its worth it for the fact that it was a 500 pound cpu. i know the same can be had from an opteron, but the fx chip starts alot higher up the scale so it will go faster. i would go for it tbh for 35 40 quid you cannot go wrong at all
