    what hdd to buy

i want a 250-320gb drive (they were the best for £/byte last time i looked)

i like western digital drives but i want something quiet, has anybody tried that supposed tool to slow them a touch and quieten WD drives?

otherwise i might just get a spinpoint

A spinpoint is quiet and cheap and has great read and wrote speeds.

A 320gb 7200.10 wont be quite so quiet or cheap but is meant to be pretty fast and will give you a little more storage.

i got a 250GB spinpoint for £50ish the other day and it's been almost silent since I put it in there. I'm really pleased with it. Scan all the way!

The Samsung Singlepoint drives have always been almost silent, I have two 250Gb in a Raid and a 160Gb boot drive. Even if all three are being accessed its whisper quiet.

Samsung are good - though I'm not sure why people are bashing Maxtor drives - I've got 4 and had no problems....

They're not bad cheapy drives, but I have found the 250gig one I'm currently using a hell of a lot noisier* than my 3xSpinpoint 250gig combined

I have the best noise supression solution known to man... 5.1 headphones and lots of great bassy music
It filters out high-speed fans, rattley hard drives, pointless phone calls, and whining siblings/spouces.

Which spinpoints do people recommend - aren't there a few different .9 and .10 models around? Or am I confusing it with something else? I've got 2 250GB Hitachi 7K250 SATA1 drives and with more drives around for £50ish it's very tempting to get another...
