Well, im still using the Britemat.
    - Had it just over a year now, and it just keeps coming back for more. Best free mousemat ive ever had.
    - I guess in terms of texture/feel its proberbly about halfway between a normal mat and an icemat. Although ive never used an icemat.

But its a protty sweet freebi, works well with my Mx500.

10" square piece of teflon baking parchment from lakeland plastics, as smooth as any 'real' pad ive ever seen (including icemats and the func ones) costs about a fiver for enough to do 3 desks (it needs sticking down).

If youre gonna get it though, get the brown stuff, the black is good,m but the weave is a bit more prominent, so its not quite as smooth

Used to use a Ratpad for a long while until I realised that it was slowly eating whatever mouse I used. So I binned that for a V1 Icemat and a new MX518. I don't think I'd ever use another type of mat now personally and it makes the ones at work seem horrible now.

    out of curiousity,
how well do you think a leather material would work as a surface on a mousemat?
i think mousemats can be selfbuilt pretty easily, and i reckon a bit of wood wrapped in leather could work quite well
    thoughts?
