    9200SE to 6600GT

I'm assuming this would be a very good upgrade for me?

If you read my last thread you'll now see I have an AMD AthlonXP 3000+ instead of a 1700+ (which reminds me, I better go change "My System" ), so i'm thinking of getting a new GFx card to more evenly match the 2 components - and because i'm sick of the 9200SE's terrible performance!

The 6600GT is £47 on scan, which seems like a good deal to me, are there any other AGP cards out there for the same sort of price (+/- £10) that will be significantly, or noticeable better or am I just as well going for the 6600GT?

    Cheers,
    David

Mate, even a 9800 would be an extreamly good upgrade from a 9200SE! ( I know cause I made that jump myself!) 6600GT is a decent card for the price. Im not sure what the equivelent ATI card is like though.

You might also want to have a look to see if you can find some 6800GT's second hard for around that price.
*edit* Seems you cant, they are all around £80+

I made the jump from an AGP 9200 to a PCI-E 6600, and it made a huge difference. It's well worth the upgrade even if you don't game that much.

Sounds like a plan then, I'll order it tomorrow and hopefully it'll turn up on wednesday

Used a PSU calculator thingy and with what the spec of the machine will be after I get that card, it came to 245w, hopefully my generic 300w will be ok...

6600GT is equivalent to a X700Pro or 9800Pro in AIT terms, the 6600GT being slightly better than both, but roughly equivalent.

Indeed, although hopefully if it doesnt turn up on wednesday, it'll be next wednesday - cuz' thats the day I've not got Uni at all, Monday and Tuesday would be fine before 10:30 but Thursday and Friday is a no-no.

Still, it could still happen I guess.

Looking forward to getting it though

The GPU of 6600GT is not at 300MHz but at 500MHz if memory serves. Be careful what you guys get. The price is ridiculously cheap, even on ebay those cards sell for more. It might be some other card. Or when they become available the price might suddenly increase.

Westavon-systems (co.uk) has the same card with double the memory for £58+delivery, and it seems available now. I don't know if it's worth the extra money.

Yes, the core should be 500MHz, while the memory should be 900MHz or 1000Mhz (or 450 or 500, depending on how you want to measure it) - neither of which seem to match up...

Ok, never buy from Westavon-systems!!! I should have searched first, it looked too good 2B true anyway... But the Scan deal looks even better.

As far as the Scan XFX card, the specifications match a 6600 card (not GT) which has a core of 300MHz, RAMDAC of 400MHz and effective memory clock of (550MHz). This could be a mix-up of specifications, because the product on the foto and the manufacturer's code correspond to the XFX 6600GT.
