    Spec check: new C2D system

    Hi,

I posted this on another forum but I just wanted to see what you guys on here thought.

I originally was just gonna upgrade the main parts, cpu/mobo/ram/gfx for about £400/£500, then thought I might as well keep my current system, spend about £600-£700, and my budget has kept expanding. I'm planning to buy it next month when I'll have about £950 at the max to spend, but would rather spend nearer £800.

I'll be overclocking it, and plan to add a better gpu cooler etc at a later date, is the P5W mobo a good choice or is the cheaper Gigabyte option gonna do the trick?

Anyway, this is what I put together:

    530W HiperPower Type-R £53.92

    Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 £121.00

    ASUS P5W DH Deluxe £146.28

    G.Skill 2GB DDR2 NR PC2-6400 £152.74

    Connect3D ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512MB £217.36

Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro £17.57

    250 Gb Samsung Spinpoint £47.81

    Lian-Li PC-7 £56.34

    Liteon SHM-165P6S-09C £22.27

    Sony Black 16x DVD-ROM £11.74

Creative Sound Blaster Audigy SE 7.1 £17.97

Total £865.00 exactly, probably pushing over 900 with shipping and fans, although prices on the gfx/mobo should go down a bit with new stuff coming out?!

I'm not sure what to do about gfx and mobo really, is the new PN532 Premium worth going for, and what about 1800xt or 1900xt, worth paying the extra for the 1900?

Finally, are these the YateLoon/Nexus fans that people seem to recommend: http://www.koolnquiet.co.uk/index.php?main=catalog&id=66 ? Worth getting a couple of 120mms?

go for the DS3 mate, or the DS4 they receive a good number of bios updates so bugs dont last too long... and they are really good at high FSB.

    Not the DQ6?

And aren't there some new boards coming out soon? I won't be buying for about a month, so I can wait a bit longer if there's something worth waiting for.

Actually since that post I have now been using a beta bios F4d which seems to have fixed my problems with it, just running Orthos overnight to see if the problem still resides. If it doesn't I will post back here to warn you . But basically atm the motherboards which can guarentee you good overclocks are the DS3 and the DS4. Otherwise the rest of your spec is up to my standards . X1900 is far superior to the X1800 especially in upcoming games. Just try and save as much as possible since in a few months the R600 and the G80 (DX10 graphics cards) will be released. The G80 will be released first which is the nvidia version, followed by the ATI R600.

The Asus P5B Deluxe is worth some consideration as well, Anandtech recently posted an article on it's abilities with the later bios'. The rest looks fine..

Cheers for the headsup, the URL is http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2822&p=1 if anyone else wants it.

It says that the P5W still gives better at 1:1 tho, and suggests that they will add it into the 975X boards too tho. I won't be buying for another month anyway, so I can see how things pan out.

    Cheers for your help

Think I'm gonna stick with the Hiper, but I'll go for http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=401076 instead of the Lite-on

I'm thinking about getting the Antec Solo case instead of the PC7+, most reviews I've seen are positive, and altho absolute silence isn't necessary, I'd like to make it as quiet as possible without spending much extra.

I like the look of the AW9D-MAX too, sorry if it's been posted and I've missed it or something, but any idea when it's coming out?

Don't think I can view that section properly yet, as it doesn't show any posts.

Found info about AW9D-MAX release here http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?t=84570 so n/m about that.

    Changed a few things around,

P5B Deluxe instead of P5W DH
    6400 instead of 6300
    256mb 1900xt instead of 512mb
    Antec Solo instead of PC7+

Still sound alright? Is the P5B Deluxe good for the 2MB L2 C2Ds or just the 4MBs?

    best for 2mb l2 cache c2ds,
anyone know how well will a e6600 + gigabyte 965p-ds4 overclock, using the 7700alcu (120mm fan one) zalman cooler, considering the ram allows for the overclock. I mean is the chipset the limitation o would the generic ram (533mhz, cas 4) be....?

pSU = defo seasonic.. well imo best out on rthe market... even got the new range out now!

mobo = p5b deluxe (best 965 chipset imo again

imo, that sound card is waste of money.. either go for the best (X-Fi) or settle with on board, on board is pretty good
