    Shopping for a graphics card

I'm in the process of acquiring parts for a new system. I've been looking at graphics cards such as the X1900GT, X1800XT (The 256 version which everyone seems to ignore) and the 7900 GS/GT line up. I would like to spend not much more than £160 and I would be running a resolution of 1280x1024 on a 19" monitor, can I ask advise from you all? Cause I'm stumped.

Get the Connect 3D X1900XT from OcUK. No frills but fast as hell.

X1900XT is a good bet, if you don't mind the noise.
7900GTO is also a great card, and quiet.

Otherwise the X1950Pro will be a good bet - not as fast as the 1900XT but cooler/quieter.

Well if you are on a budget then the X1800XT 256mb would be great! But of course the X1900gt would be a better performer. But who are we kidding. Every one knows that DirectX10 are on the horizen and will render all current cards Yesteryear. So in another 3 to 4 years you will need to upgrade to be able to play any 2009 games. So personally don't get caught up in the hype of graphics X1900 and 7900. Buy something that will allow you to play todays games at good FPS per resolution and save for upgrading in about a year.
7800 or X1800 would probably play just fine for the time being.
    Don't believe the hype!
I can't understand why those of us who know the least, think of themselves to know the most!

yeah, i'm on a 9800pro and now only just feeling the need for a new PC. Admittely i play at 1024x768. But its not all about graphics thats what my wallet tells me anyways! This pc has lasted me 4 years now, with an upgrade from a geforce mx2 to the 9800pro so I think its time for an upgrade!
Well, I can cut it in half!

Just like to correct that the X1800XT 256MB is in most cases faster than the X1900GT..

The X1800XT is even faster than a majority of the 7900GT which the X1900GT has trouble fending off..
    Me want Ultrabook

    Aye, I'm also packing a 9800Pro, but I play at 1280x1024.

micromonkeys *cough* sorry MS look like their releasing an xp version of DX10 called DX9.0L, if they infact do, it will be intresting to see how it runs and what the vista take up will be if 9L is any good.might well mean not having to do a major upgrade in one hit and the reddies are better in my pocket than theirs.

The inquirer is a bit of a dodgey source for info really.

The X1800XT is a good card, I have the Connect 3D 256mb card and it is powerful. I got this as I know that there will be DX10 cards soon so figured it's pointless getting an expensive card.
