Okay so, on my continuing Opteron overclock journey, I've come across the following oddity:
300MHz x 9 = 2.7GHz
RAM at 193MHz due to divider
Windows loads, everything is cool...
But as soon as I try 305MHz x 9 , it won't even boot.
Whats the VCore?
Its the ram being a pain then, what voltage are you running on that?
heh, no worries
When you reduce the speed its runnng at, it craps out? That doesn't make much sense
Have you tried lowering the voltage when you run the lower divider?
I'll try it now, just gotta find the stock voltage out.
EDIT: Found it, according to Corsair they were tested at 2.75v anyway.
Kinda makes sense really as I can get 305 x 9 working fine by just using the lowest divider.
Have you got the latest bios for your motherboard? It may just be a quirk of the bios that happens?
Could be, have you used any previous bios' that have been as stable as the current one? Might be worth giving that a try
Are your DRAM timings set to 'Auto'? Sometimes the board will use tighter timings on a lower memory strap.
perhaps it's not the RAM but you need a slight voltage boost to the chipset at that external clock?
